F/1S has been so lucky to have Ruby, our pre-service teacher, be part of our classroom for the last six weeks. We are so grateful for all of her hard work and support. Here is some of her work with our students and her reflection of her placement.

Ruby’s Reflection

I have been fortunate enough to complete my final teaching rounds in the F/1S classroom this term. We have been busy settling into rhythms and routines while exploring creativity, collaboration and curiosity through a wide range of learning experiences. During my placement, I have found it wonderful to see students grow in their confidence as they worked together in pairs and groups, sharing ideas and exploring science content through hands-on learning.

As a part of our science learning, students investigated the basic needs of animals, their habitats and observable features. Through storytelling, outdoor exploration and creative activities, students considered how living things survive and how animals can be grouped according to what we notice and observe about their features. Some highlights included building outdoor habitats using natural materials, creating collaborative habitat posters, and exploring and discussing the many different features animals have such as feathers, scales, wings and fur using clay to mould these features.

The class has also enjoyed some nature-inspired craft activities, including our autumn leaf posters, alongside continued work in writing and mathematics. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch students engage with imaginative learning experiences while developing their ability to work cooperatively, communicate ideas and think creatively.

A massive thank you to the F/1S students, families and Mirella for making my placement such a warm and memorable experience. I have greatly appreciated being part of the classroom community and sharing in students’ enthusiasm for learning and play.
