Senior Students Shine at Biggest Morning Tea Fundraiser

Our senior students recently demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork, and community spirit through their involvement in the Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser held at the Iramoo Community Centre.

Students worked incredibly hard to plan and deliver a memorable event that brought the community together in support of an important cause. As part of the fundraiser, students prepared and cooked a delicious three-course meal, showcasing their creativity, organisation, and hospitality skills. Guests were warmly welcomed and professionally served throughout the event, with students taking great pride in ensuring everyone enjoyed the experience.

The afternoon also featured live music performances by students, creating a warm and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees. In addition, student artwork was proudly displayed around the venue, highlighting the incredible talent and creativity within our senior cohort.

A special thank you also goes to our Community Hub parents, who generously contributed beautiful take-home cupcakes for guests to enjoy. Their support and involvement helped make the event even more special and further highlighted the strong sense of community surrounding the fundraiser.

The event was a fantastic success and reflected the dedication, compassion, and teamwork of our students. We are extremely proud of the way they represented the college and contributed positively to the wider community through this meaningful fundraiser.

A huge thank you goes to all students, staff, parents, and community members who supported the event and helped make the day such a success.

Attitudes to School Survey

Our students recently participated in the Attitudes to School Survey, and we would like to sincerely thank all students who took the time to share their thoughts, experiences, and feedback. Student voice is incredibly important to us, and this survey provides valuable insight into what we are doing well and where we can continue to grow as a school community.

We appreciate the honesty and effort students showed when completing the survey, as their feedback helps shape future decisions, programs, and opportunities at the college. We look forward to reviewing the responses and using the feedback to continue improving the learning environment, wellbeing supports, and overall school experience for all students.

Wyndham Educational Roundtable

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Wyndham City Council Education Roundtable. The event brought together educators and community leaders to learn more about the rapid growth and changing needs of our local community.

Did you know that Wyndham City Council is the fastest growing municipality in Victoria, with more than 84,000 residents under 18 years of age? The presentation highlighted the incredible growth occurring across Wyndham and the increasing demands this places on schools and community services.

A key focus of the roundtable was the growing complexity of issues facing young people today. Presenters spoke about the increasing wellbeing and mental health pressures experienced by students, along with challenges relating to attendance, engagement, social media, and supporting young people in an ever-changing world. These conversations reinforced the importance of schools, families, and community organisations continuing to work together to support our young people.

The roundtable featured five fantastic presenters who shared valuable insights, research, and experiences from across the education and community sectors. Their presentations provided staff with important knowledge and ideas that will continue to support the work we do with students every day.

We thank Wyndham City Council for organising such an informative and valuable event for our community.

Year 12 Theatre Studies students

Our Year 12 Theatre Studies students recently participated in the 4AM Play as part of their Outcome 3.1 studies, where they took full creative leadership of the production process. Students worked collaboratively to develop and stage the performance while undertaking a range of production roles including directing, stage management, design and performance. The experience provided an authentic insight into the demands of live theatre making and we are incredibly proud of the teamwork and dedication demonstrated by our students throughout the project. We congratulate them on a highly successful production experience.

Senior Assembly Celebrates Student Achievement

Our recent Senior Assembly was a wonderful celebration of student achievement, recognising the hard work, dedication, and success of students across Years 10–12.

A highlight of the assembly was the presentation of the Academic and Endeavour Awards. These awards recognise students who have demonstrated excellence in their learning, as well as those who have shown persistence, commitment, and a positive attitude towards their studies. Congratulations to all award recipients on this well-deserved recognition.

The assembly also celebrated the success of Yellow House, who were crowned the overall winners of this year's Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all Yellow House students for their enthusiasm, participation, and determination throughout the event.

The Athletics Championship trophy was proudly presented to the Yellow House Captains, who accepted the award on behalf of their house. Their leadership and encouragement throughout the year have helped foster a strong sense of house spirit and teamwork.

It was a fantastic celebration of the many achievements of our senior students, and we look forward to recognising even more success throughout the year.

Congratulations to Our Students for completing exams

Congratulations to all of our Year 10-12 students who recently completed their mid-year examinations. Exams are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress, and prepare for future studies.

We would like to acknowledge the commitment, resilience, and determination shown by our students throughout the examination period. From attending classes, completing revision, seeking feedback from teachers, and balancing their many commitments, our students have worked hard to put their best foot forward.

While results are important, we are equally proud of the effort and perseverance students demonstrated in preparing for their exams. These skills are invaluable and will continue to support them throughout their educational journey and beyond.

We thank our teaching staff for their ongoing support and guidance and wish all students the very best as they continue their studies for the remainder of the semester.

GAT Day Pizza Lunch

Students completing the General Achievement Test (GAT) were treated to a pizza lunch during the break on the day of the assessment. The lunch provided a welcome opportunity for students to relax, recharge, and connect with their peers after a busy morning of testing.

It was wonderful to see students enjoying a well-earned break before returning to complete the afternoon session. We congratulate all students on their efforts throughout the day and thank them for the positive way they approached this important assessment.

Year 10 Work Experience

Good luck to all of our Year 10 students as they embark on their Work Experience placements this week. This is an exciting opportunity to explore potential career pathways, develop workplace skills, and gain valuable real-world experience.

We hope students make the most of this opportunity, learn new skills, and enjoy their time in the workplace. We look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return to school.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10

Congratulations to students for their efforts in Semester One and particularly around the exams. We saw lots of students studying hard and using the library in the mornings and I’m sure that will be reflected in some pleasing results in the reports.

Also, good luck to all those about to embark on work experience. This is a really valuable opportunity and something that students tend to remember for a long time – I certainly can still remember my work experience. It will help with students identifying their career pathway and what subjects they should study in year 11 and 12 as well as being a gateway into potential jobs or further experience in the future.

Students are currently selecting their taster subjects for next term when they will have a day as a year 11 to get an idea of different VCE subjects. It is important that students think carefully about which subjects they want to try as that will give them valuable insight when they are selecting their options for next year. All students should pick subjects for their taster.

Next term, students will complete their choices for year 11 via web preferences. They will require a parent or guardian to sign off on those choices as well. Whichever subjects are chosen, once they have started those subjects it is very difficult to change, so students are selecting what they want to do for the next two years. We encourage students to spend time looking through the handbook, reflecting on the information they have been presented with in assemblies and talk to both teachers and those at home about the best options for themselves. If you have any questions or require any assistance, please don’t hesitate to be in touch.

As part of that, all students who applied for VM had an interview last week. We were highly impressed by the general attitude and approach of the students. We know many were very nervous, but the students spoke with great maturity about their plans for the future.

It is hard to believe that we are already more than halfway through the year, so many students had an excellent first half and we have certainly seen the growth and development of the students and look forward to that continuing for the rest of the year, especially after completing work experience!

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11

It has been a positive and productive start to the year for our Year 11 cohort as they continue their journey through senior studies. Students have demonstrated resilience, independence, and a growing sense of responsibility as they adjust to the demands of VCE. Completing Semester 1 is an important milestone, and the commitment shown by many students provides a strong foundation for the remainder of the year.

Throughout the examination period, Year 11 students displayed maturity and a focused approach to their learning. Their preparation, organisation, and ability to remain composed under pressure were evident, and staff commended the respectful and purposeful way in which students approached their exams. These habits will continue to serve them well as expectations increase moving forward.

Semester 1 reports have been released. These reports provide valuable insights into each student’s progress, including assessment outcomes, learning behaviours, attendance, and application to tasks. We encourage families to take the time to review these reports carefully and celebrate achievements while also identifying areas for improvement.

Students who have been identified as not yet meeting the required outcomes in a subject are expected to complete any outstanding work or redemption tasks as directed by their teachers. This is an important opportunity to consolidate learning and ensure a strong start to Term 3.

We encourage parents and carers to maintain open communication with subject teachers to support students in achieving success across all areas of their learning.

Lateness to school and classes

We seek your continued support in ensuring that your child arrives at school on time each day, before 9:00 am. The Wyn Time session, which begins promptly at 9:00 am, is a vital part of the school day. It provides students with valuable opportunities to prepare for the day ahead, receive important reminders, collaborate with peers, and engage in wellbeing activities—especially important in their final year of VCE. It is also essential that students attend all their scheduled classes on time throughout the day. Persistent lateness or failure to attend classes on time may result in afterschool detention or other appropriate consequences. We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of punctuality and full attendance as key habits for academic success and personal responsibility.

General Achievement Test (GAT)

All students successfully completed the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday, 16th June. The GAT plays an important role in ensuring the accuracy and fairness of VCE external assessments and school-based assessments. Additionally, GAT results may be used to calculate Derived Examination Scores if required and will appear on students' official transcripts issued by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). To acknowledge student’s effort and commitment, they were rewarded with a pizza lunch and drinks.

Semester 1 Report Review

Families and carers are encouraged to carefully review the Semester 1 reports, which will be distributed to students during the final week of Term 2 and are also accessible via Compass. These reports provide a comprehensive overview of each student’s academic progress.

To be awarded the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), students must successfully complete at least 16 units, which must include three units from the English group, with at least one Unit 3 and 4 sequence, and three additional Unit 3 and 4 sequences in any other subjects.

In practical terms, Year 12 students are expected to pass a minimum of four subjects, including English (equivalent to 8 units), unless they have already completed a Unit 3 & 4 subject in Year 11 through acceleration. Failing a subject may negatively impact a student’s ATAR and could affect their eligibility for certain university or tertiary courses.

Students who have not passed one or more subjects must complete any outstanding coursework or redemption tasks assigned by their subject teachers over the holiday break. This is crucial to ensure students are caught up and prepared for a successful start to Term 3. Families and carers are encouraged to contact the relevant subject teachers to discuss any incomplete work and understand how to support their child in achieving an S (Satisfactory) result in the relevant subject(s). Your partnership in this process is vital to your child’s continued progress and success.

Year 12 Pyjama & Movie Night

In recognition of our Year 12 students’ hard work throughout their examinations and Semester 1, we are pleased to host a Pyjama & Movie Night during the final week of Term 2. This after-school event will run from 4:40 PM to 7:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to relax, connect with peers, and celebrate their efforts in a fun and supportive environment. We would also like to acknowledge and sincerely thank our School Captains, House Captains, and Class Captains for their leadership and commitment in helping to plan and organise this event. Their contributions have been instrumental in bringing it together. We look forward to a successful and enjoyable evening for all involved.
