Teaching & Learning Report

As we approach the final days of Term 2, we are pleased to see our students’ continued diligence and commitment to their learning, particularly as we transitioned into Semester 2 on 9 June. This new semester provides an important opportunity for reflection—recognising what has worked well in Semester 1, building on existing strengths and achievements, and identifying areas for improvement with a clear focus on growth. At Wyndham Central College, we firmly believe that with effort and determination, all students can achieve success.

Virtual Reality Arrives at WCC Classrooms

Wyndham Central College is excited to celebrate the arrival of Virtual Reality (VR) technology in our classrooms, bringing cutting-edge innovation to teaching and learning and engagement.

Across two engaging sessions in May, students and staff had the opportunity to explore this immersive technology through hands-on experiences. Representatives from Science, Humanities, and Health and Physical Education worked alongside teachers to discover how VR can transform learning by making it more interactive, engaging, and meaningful.

From stepping inside historical worlds to exploring complex scientific ideas and real-life health scenarios, VR opens the door to experiences that extend far beyond the traditional classroom. This technology enhances curiosity, deepens understanding, and supports a wide range of learning styles.

This is an exciting step forward for WCC, as we continue to embrace innovative, future-focused learning opportunities for our students and ensuring we provide every chance for students to experience success. We look forward to expanding the use of VR and building staff expertise in this exciting space.

A special thank you to Mr Perdana (Digital Learning Leader) and Mr McDonald (IT Coordinator) for leading this initiative and bringing this cutting-edge technology to our school.

Student Success at WynSpeak

On Tuesday, 19th of May, three brave Wyndham Central students took the stage to do something most adults have nightmares about: public speaking.

Febi Oluyemisi (8G), Sienna Williams (8H) and Manning Bricknell (12C) were all incredibly anxious, but, they confronted this challenge and managed to speak with confidence and conviction about issues close to their hearts. For Febi and Sienna, this was their first time ever public speaking. Even more impressively, Sienna managed to win the short notice

division. With only two minutes to prepare, she penned a compelling speech on how students are more than their grades.

A huge congratulations to all three students. And a huge thanks you to Mr. Oscar Davis for his efforts in preparing and supporting the students.

Congratulations to our Students on a Wonderful Showcase

We would like to congratulate our students on their outstanding showcase of our school values, Respect, Cooperation and Excellence, at the Iramoo Community Centre luncheon on 14 May.

Our Foods students planned and prepared a delicious three-course meal, which they served with professionalism and care to the guests. Throughout the event, our Music students provided wonderful entertainment, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while our Art students proudly displayed their impressive work.

This event was a fantastic example of authentic, real-life learning, where students applied their skills in a meaningful community setting. We are incredibly proud of their teamwork, creativity and commitment.

A special thank you to Ms. Colleen Brown for leading and coordinating this event and all of our Technology and Arts staff and our Community Hub for their dedication in supporting this wonderful showcase and providing such a valuable experience for our students.

Well done to all involved for representing the college with pride and enthusiasm.

Concert Bands Shines in an Extraordinary Evening of Music — 11 June

Our school community was treated to an unforgettable evening on 11 June as the Concert Bands delivered a series of extraordinary performances in the College Auditorium. The event brought together students, families, staff, and community members to celebrate the talent, dedication, and musical growth of our young musicians.

Under the guidance of our passionate music staff, the ensemble showcased a diverse repertoire, performing with confidence. Each piece highlighted the students’ commitment to rehearsal and their enthusiasm for sharing music with others.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and supported the performers. Events like this strengthen the bonds within our school community and remind us of the power of the arts to inspire, connect, and uplift.

Acceleration Selection

The selection process for the Acceleration Program has now been completed, and all students and families have been notified of the outcome. Thank you to all students who expressed interest and participated in the Acceleration selection process. The selection process is rigorous, and we were delighted by how positively and respectfully students represented themselves throughout.

The Acceleration Program aims to provide students with unique opportunities for intellectual growth and challenge. It offers a platform for students to extend their knowledge and skills beyond the standard curriculum, fostering a strong love of learning, curiosity, and an early experience of the academic demands of VCE.

We encourage all students to continue embracing challenges and seeking and taking opportunities for growth.

 End of Semester Reports

The Semester 1 Reports are now accessible to parents and carers via Compass. Students have also received a hard copy of their report, completed a report reflection, and set goals for Term 3. The Semester 1 reports provide valuable feedback to help students reflect on and celebrate their achievements while setting goals for future improvement.

We extend our gratitude to parents for your ongoing support in encouraging your children to fulfill all work requirements and assessment tasks, fostering their confidence as learners. Additionally, we highly recommend that parents continue to motivate their children to attend Homework Club, held on Wednesday after school. This valuable resource offers students the necessary support to complete their homework and revision effectively.

As the holiday break approaches, we wish all families a restful and safe time.
