Hindi Excursion- Authentic Indian Restaurant Experience

As part of their Hindi language program, students recently participated in an exciting excursion to a local Indian restaurant. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to experience Indian culture firsthand while applying the Hindi language skills they have been learning in the classroom.

Throughout the excursion, students explored the rich flavours, traditions, and hospitality that are an important part of Indian culture. They practised using Hindi greetings and food-related vocabulary and learned about traditional Indian dishes, ingredients, and dining customs.

Students were encouraged to engage with restaurant staff, read menu items, and identify familiar Hindi words. The experience helped bring classroom learning to life by demonstrating how language is used in authentic, real-world contexts.

The excursion also supported students' intercultural understanding by encouraging them to reflect on the similarities and differences between Indian and Australian food traditions. Many students were keen to try new foods and enjoyed discussing their favourite dishes with their peers.

Experiential learning opportunities such as this are an important part of our Hindi program, helping students develop confidence in communication while deepening their understanding of the connection between language, culture, and identity.

It was a memorable and enjoyable experience that further inspired our students' enthusiasm for learning Hindi and exploring Indian culture.

This year I have been learning about Hindi and so far I have enjoyed it as I got to learn new things while going an excursion to an Indian Restaurant, trying food like chicken curry with naan and chawal (rice) also tasting sweet Gulab jamun. I really enjoyed it.

My experience with Hindi was great. I have learnt new words like Namaste, Dhanyavaad which means “Thank you”. The teacher was great. They have provided and helped me learn the language and learning about Indian culture was great.

Everybody who went to the restaurant were all really hyped. We were all waiting outside and excited to go inside an Indian Restaurant. When we got the first serve of food, rich Indian flavour immediately burst into our mouth. Thank you for organising and helping us enjoy, and experience Hindi and Indian Culture outside our classroom.

International Yoga Day Hindi Beacon School Celebration

In celebration of International Yoga Day, students from the Hindi Beacon School Program participated in an engaging and enriching experience that promoted wellbeing, cultural understanding, and personal growth. Students took part in yoga, relaxation techniques, and a sound bowl session, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the practice and its cultural significance.

Throughout the session, students developed valuable life skills, including mindfulness, focus, and self-regulation. It was particularly impressive to see students step outside their comfort zones, demonstrating resilience and a willingness to try new and sometimes challenging activities. Their openness to learning and engagement in the experience highlighted the positive impact of such opportunities beyond the classroom.
