Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

As we reach the end of term two, we would like to congratulate our middle years students on their efforts and achievements throughout the first half of the year. This semester has been filled with learning, growth, challenges, and successes, and it has been great to see our students engage positively with the all the opportunities they have been provided.

We would particularly like to acknowledge all students who have recently completed their mid-year examinations. Exams require significant preparation (from teachers as well), resilience, and commitment, and our students should be proud of the effort they have invested. While results are important, the skills developed through the process—including organisation, perseverance, and self-reflection—are equally valuable and will continue to support future success.

As reports are distributed, we encourage students and families to take the opportunity to celebrate achievements and reflect on areas for continued growth. Learning is a journey, and each semester provides valuable opportunities to build on strengths and set new goals.

We would also like to thank our dedicated staff for their ongoing commitment to supporting every student. The care, expertise, and enthusiasm they bring to our classrooms each day contribute greatly to the positive learning environment we strive to create.

Term three presents exciting opportunities for learning, leadership, and personal development. Students are encouraged to return refreshed, ready to embrace new challenges, and committed to achieving their personal best. Whether through academic pursuits, extracurricular activities, sporting achievements, or community involvement, there are many opportunities to become actively involved in school life.

As we are into the winter months, we would also like to remind families of the importance of wearing the correct school uniform. Our uniform is a source of pride and helps foster a strong sense of belonging within our school community. The new puffer jacket and vest have made great additions to our uniform and we’d like to thank all families that have purchased them. A reminder that those with a current Health Care card are entitled to receive uniform vouchers from State Schools Relief. Please contact your child’s relevant sub-school to make arrangements.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

As we approach the end of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate some of the fantastic achievements and events that have taken place across our Year 8 cohort.

A huge congratulations to 8C, who were the winners of the recent Tutor Challenge and were rewarded with a well-deserved pizza lunch! With plenty of challenges still to come, the competition remains wide open. Which class will take out the next challenge? It's anyone's game!

Well done also to Rav and Shontae, who successfully progressed to the next round of the Cross Country competition. We wish them the very best as they continue to represent Wyndham Central College.

Year 8 exams were held on the 3rd and 4th of June, and I would like to commend all students for the mature and positive way they approached the examination period. Their behaviour and effort were excellent and should be recognised.

Semester reports were distributed on 23 June. Students participated in a reflection session during School wide time, allowing them to review their achievements, identify areas for growth, and set goals for Semester 2.

As a reminder, WYNtime is the first 30 minutes of the school day and is an important opportunity for students to prepare themselves for learning. We ask families to support us by ensuring students arrive on time and ready to begin the day positively.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to Mr McKenzie for his outstanding work as our Year Level Coordinator throughout the term. We wish him and his partner a wonderful honeymoon in Hawaii and look forward to hearing all about his adventures upon his return.

Looking ahead, Multicultural Week will take place at the beginning of Term 3. This is always a fantastic opportunity for our school to celebrate the rich diversity that makes our community so special.

We are also excited for Multicultural Family Night on 29 July, and we warmly invite all families and community members to come along and support Wyndham Central College. It promises to be a wonderful evening celebrating our students and school community.

A big round of applause goes to Junior, who danced his way to victory in this week's Tutor Challenge dance-off! It was fantastic to see the entire Year 8 cohort cheering on and supporting one another, demonstrating the strong sense of community we are proud of at Wyndham Central College.

Finally, I would like to wish all students and families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday break. Thank you for your continued support throughout Term 2, and we look forward to another successful term ahead.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

Can you believe it is the end of Term 2 already? Wow, this term has flown by.

From essays to projects, exams and CATs, our Year 9 students have taken it all in their stride and ended Semester One on such a positive note. Exams ran as smoothly as ever, which was fantastic to see. Students should be very proud of the way they approached this busy assessment period with maturity and focus.

Semester Two began extremely well, settling into new electives and new topics with enthusiasm. Students have already been completing some fantastic work across their new subjects. This semester has introduced two never-before-seen electives in our Student Voice block: AI and Zoology. These subjects fit in well alongside other engaging electives such as Marine Science, Anatomy of Disease and Foundations of Nursing.

There have also been some fantastic creations taking shape in 3D Visual Arts, as well as some wonderful woodwork happening in Inventors Workshop. It has been exciting to see students exploring their interests, building new skills and making the most of the opportunities available to them.

Well done, Year 9, on making such a great start to Semester Two. Keep up the good work.

Assembly, as always, continues to be a staple in the Year 9 calendar. It is a valuable time for celebration, connection and community.

Congratulations to the following students who have received Student of the Week over the past few weeks:

Week 5: Bella Guirreri of 9G, for demonstrating strong leadership skills and consistently showing responsibility within her class.

Week 6: Eesha Kumar of 9B, for demonstrating the college values.

Week 7: Maya Clarete of 9C, for leading and organising class leader meetings and always demonstrating a great work ethic.

Week 8: Sayler Htoo of 9E, for having 100% attendance, always working hard and demonstrating the college values.

Week 9: Ava Hall of 9A, for her hard work and for consistently trying her best in all her classes.

Well done to all students. Keep up the great work.

Our Tutor Challenge has heated up over the past few weeks. 9C are eager to claim the trophy for a second consecutive term, but will they be denied by 9A at the final post? Only time will tell.

A highlight of the term has been the continued focus on student achievement and participation. Whether through classroom learning, sporting events, school programs, leadership opportunities or everyday acts of kindness, many students have demonstrated our school values in meaningful ways.

As we move into Term 3, we encourage all Year 9 students to continue building strong study habits, staying organised and making the most of the opportunities available to them. Thank you to families and carers for your ongoing support throughout Term 2.

We wish all Year 9 students and their families a safe and restful break.
