Rowing Update
Shelford Girls' Grammar competed in the Australian National Rowing Championships at Penrith NSW for the final time last weekend. The squad, comprising of our Senior Coxed Eight (Evie M, Jacquie N, Ilana T, Alice J, Zoe K, Erica S, Alannah L, Ruby L, Edie H-M) our two Double Sculls Hannah C, Isobel H & Gemma B, Millie D) and our Single Sculler (Octavia T) travelled to Sydney on Wednesday 20 March to compete in a series of races against the best Schoolgirl crews from around the country over the following five days.
Each crew and sculler rose to the occasion and performed extremely well on the National stage and brought great credit to themselves and the School as they closed out the final chapter of Shelford’s 21-year rowing history.
One of the events that has become synonymous with Shelford Rowing has been the Schoolgirl Double Scull, which we have promoted and supported at the HOSG regatta since its introduction 6 years ago. After many years of lobbying by Shelford for this event to be included in the National Championships, Rowing Australia introduced the Schoolgirl and Schoolboy Double Scull for the first time this year and has honoured Shelford’s efforts by naming the event after our school.
On Sunday 24 March, our Rowing Captains Ilana T and Zoe K, along with the Director of Rowing, presented “The Shelford Cup” to the National Champion Schoolgirl Double Scull from Rockhampton, QLD.
This beautiful trophy will be presented at the Nationals in perpetuity and marks the significant impact that Shelford Girls' Grammar has had in Victorian and Australian Rowing.
