Year 9 City Challenge

This week, Year 9 students embarked on the City Challenge, a program spanning a week where they explored Melbourne's CBD. They delved into activities and research aimed at understanding how Melbourne addresses the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Challenge kicked off with the Shelford Amazing Race on Monday, where teams navigated from Shelford to Federation Square, completing tasks and documenting their journey. They continued with inquiry activities in the city to study Melbourne's contribution to their chosen SDGs. The next day began with roll call at Federation Square, followed by a visit to Eureka Skydeck and the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens for a Sustainable Gardening workshop. In the afternoon, SDG inquiry continued across the city.

Wednesday included a tour of Parliament House, a visit to the State Library of Victoria, and a scavenger hunt through its reading rooms. Meanwhile, the final day of the Challenge featured a Sustainable Architecture walking tour, a visit to the Museum of Chinese Australian History, and concluded at Science Gallery Melbourne with a Sustainable Communities workshop and exhibition tour.

Students will now prepare presentations on their SDGs for next term. Thank you, Year 9s, for a successful City Challenge 2024!
