Year 7 Update

Beginning

As we approach the end of Term One, it's a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the journey we've embarked upon together. Our word of the term was ‘beginning’ and it's been truly inspiring to witness how this theme has woven through our experiences this term.

The beginning of high school marks a significant milestone in our students' lives. It's a time of transition, where they step into new roles and responsibilities, navigate unfamiliar environments, and forge new friendships. Embracing this beginning has allowed our students to adapt and thrive in their new environment.

We've also witnessed the beginning of new experiences, from engaging lessons to exciting extracurricular activities. Each day has brought fresh opportunities for learning and growth, encouraging our students to step out of their comfort zones and explore their potential.

Change has been a constant companion this term, whether it's adjusting to new schedules or embracing different subjects. Embracing these changes with resilience and an open mind has empowered our Year 7 students to navigate challenges and embrace new perspectives.

Beginning is often associated with fresh starts and opportunities. This term, our students have embraced these opportunities with enthusiasm, seizing every chance to learn, collaborate, and shine.

Laura has reflected on the beginning of her high school journey below.

Going to high school is not easy. It’s like you just reset the timer and now you're in day one at foundation once more.

On our first day of school, we arrived at Shelford Girls' Grammar wearing full school uniforms. It was nerve-wracking at first, all those giants looming over me, but as the day went on, I realised it was not so bad; everyone in the class were in the same boat.

After a few days we started to familiarise ourselves with our classes but as the days went on, I realised the harsh realities of homework and tests. That made me stress out but luckily most of them are over now! Amidst the academic whirlwind, bright moments emerged. The colour fun run, where teachers gleefully splashed us with vibrant hues gave us a welcome break. Crafting salad roll-ups in Food Studies are a testament to newfound independence.

Last of all is our Peer Support Program, our Peer Support Leaders made all of us feel welcome in this unfamiliar environment and we are ever so lucky to have them.

To conclude, Year 7 is another big step forward with more responsibility and independence.

I look forward to the new beginnings and adventures that await us in Term Two.
