Year Two
Welcome to Term 3 Week 8.
Year 2 have been working incredibly hard this week, we have achieved some fantastic writing all related to our new unit of inquiry!
Reading
In our Reading lessons we have been focussing on identifying and understanding the features of non-fiction texts. We have been exploring features such as: contents page, glossary, subheadings, captions to further our understanding of how these features can help the reader. We have linked our reading lessons to our central idea of 'Every place on earth has different characteristics' through exploring a variety of different texts all about landforms!

Writing
In Week 7, students worked through a full text innovation process: brainstorming, drafting, editing and revising, then publishing a finished piece based on a familiar story.
In Week 8, we began a new research-based writing task connected to our landforms unit. Students unpacked our new central idea, ‘Every place on Earth has different characteristics’, and started researching a landform of their choice, using a graphic organiser to gather facts ahead of drafting an information report.
Maths
Week 7 focused on arrays: describing rows and columns, connecting arrays to repeated addition and multiplication, and applying this understanding to worded problems. Week 8 moved into division, beginning with sharing collections equally and building up to repeated subtraction, arrays and worded problems, using think boards to show more than one strategy for the same problem.
Inquiry
Students wrapped up our body systems unit with peer presentations, sharing a discovery linked to a line of inquiry and showing their learning through their chosen product (craft, report or diagram). We then launched our new unit on landforms, unpacking the central idea and our three lines of inquiry – Form, Connection and Responsibility – and beginning to explore different landforms through non-fiction texts.
Father's Day
Outside of our regular writing program, the students also visited the Father's Day stall and enjoyed making a special card for Father's Day.
Reminders
Students to bring homework books and reading journals in and present them to teachers weekly on the assigned day.
Readers to be changed weekly in reading satchels.
