Intermediate Band visits to local Retirement Villages

On the 16th of September the Intermediate Concert Band went to some retirement villages to play for the elderly people living there. We first went to Cumberland View Retirement Village by the school bus that was being used for the first time after renovation. When we arrived at the Retirement Village, we set up our instruments and stands and then started to perform. We played “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, “Dark Star”, “Stand By Me” and “Sweet Caroline” as a band for the audience.

In between those songs some talented people played songs for the audience, solo and duo. After we had played for them, we were able to chat with the elderly people and get to know them. It was really fun getting to know where they were from and their hobbies and what they like to do at the retirement villages.   After talking with them we made a stop at Jells Park to eat lunch and play on the playground equipment such as the small trampolines and the swings.

We then got back on the bus and headed to Weary Dunlop Retirement Village and performed the same band songs and the soloists and duos got to perform their individual songs again. We then got to talk to the elderly people there and even got a small bottle of lemonade and treats to eat from the staff as a thank you for performing for the elderly people there.

It was a really fun experience and I overall had a great time since it was my first performance with the band as a new member and I can’t wait for the next performance I have with the band.
