Hi to our John Fawkner Community. Something a little different for this Newsletter.
Showcasing two students who should be commended for their representation of themselves, our school and their families.
Nicholas (Nick) Dunstall Year 10. Work Experience at the Fawkner Police Station. While I was at the Fawkner Police Station on 17th-21st of March it was quite entertaining. What they do there is they show you their resources that they have readily available like the cameras they have etc., but I had quite the time while there, they had given me a tour off the building, showed me how their fingerprint team works, and they also showed me the police airwing and how they work. The police airwing was very caring to let me and 3 other people go there. What they do there is also very important like for an example they give eyes from above if they need too. Police could also ask them if they were nearby to see if they can help. They have a camera, spotlight, laser, a grapple if needed to help a person stuck if they can rescue someone. Unfortunately, I was not able to go meet the k9s as they were unavailable. But the people I was working with were kind and funny and it was pleasure to meet the people there and overall working there was a great time. Spending time out in the community was also a great experience.
Bartolo Spano Year 10.
I had many conversations and interactions with Kathy Miller our Careers person. About wanting to start working but also attending school. Firstly, we spoke about the Tradie Taster at ONTTC which I enrolled into and led for me to look at another pathway with Reece Plumbing. I had to complete a Literacy and Numeracy Test. Then send in my Resume and a chat over the phone with the Recruitment Officer Pat. I then completed a work trial from the 19th -21st March. I greeted customers, completed stock take and counting. Unloading and loading of deliveries and materials to Reece. Then sorted stock and sent orders with drivers. I really enjoyed the time I had with the Reece crew. And then it was a long wait over the weekend to hear if I was successful in obtaining a School Based Traineeship in Cert II Supply Chain Operations. I was successful and I am so happy for this opportunity.
The feedback from both employers was exceptional. Stating that they absolutely put in their best showing signs that they will achieve great success in life and their futures. They both presented well, were engaging and effort was 100%.
