Principal's report

As we prepare for the first term break, I reflect on the year to date and as always, am amazed at the many opportunities our students have taken to try new things, excel in their learning, and come together to have fun.
Inside, you will read about food - something we celebrate every chance we get!
Firstly - canteen news. Our canteen has started up again on a part time basis for now, with the view to going full time some time in the future. Linda is a well known figure in these areas, and you may have enjoyed some of her cooking in her food van.
When the new food tech building is finished, we will explore offerings for VET cooking in VCE, as well as having the new cafeteria operating out of that space.
Throughout the week, we celebrated food in the classroom, when year 10 Food Tech students put on a delicious morning tea for staff. And we hosted our first Iftar with the Year 12 students on Tuesday evening. Celebrating with food is such a wonderful opportunity to bring people together and we are immensely proud of our students who have participated with such enthusiasm in these events.
There are reports inside from some of our classrooms, with a variety of examples of the great work we do at JFC, including Biology at a high level, fun in the Music and Drama classes, Maths in real life, and some great Literacy classes for younger students.
Sport as usual features here and the girls are shining in sport at the moment, with so much action for them. MV school football is gaining momentum with increased participation at all levels and we can't wait to see the players looking professional in their uniform next term!
Camps - two camps coming up - senior students will experience camping and outdoor activities in the annual Outdoor Education camp in term 2 with Ms Slatter. The year 7 & 8 students have an opportunity to go on their 3 day, 2 night camp to Toolangi, and information has gone out to families regarding this camp. Please sign up ASAP if you haven't done so already!
On the curriculum side, we experienced terrific participation in NAPLAN this year, with the students in Year 7 and 9 putting in their best efforts. Results should be out in term 3.
Finally, don't forget to use the $400 school savings bonus to purchase uniform and books!
This newsletter is a bumper edition - enjoy!
