Year 12 Iftar
On Tuesday evening, John Fawkner College hosted Iftar* for year 12 students and staff. An enormous spread of breads, dips, meats, pastries and sweets was provided by staff, students and families. The meal was shared with enormous enjoyment and positivity from all involved. The warmth and generosity of our community was clearly on display for this truly wholesome occasion.
This event was an awesome opportunity for members of our diverse community to share their culture or to participate in the culture of others. Indeed, several staff and students fasted throughout the day for the first time to further participate in the sharing of culture. The success of this event is testament to the power of celebrating our differences, and the positivity it can bring to our college community.
Thank you to all that contributed a dish to be shared. A special shout-out is needed for students and staff that prepared their own contributions. Who knew we had so many talented bakers and cooks here at JFC?
With the enormous success of this evening, we hope to see more events like this at the college in the years to come. It is important to acknowledge that this event was driven by the requests and organisational efforts of our year 12 students. If there is an important cultural event that you would love to share with the school community, please speak with your year level captain or coordinator!
We very much look forward to further celebrations of our diverse cultures here at John Fawkner College.
