Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Every year at John Fawkner College, we celebrate Cultural Diversity Week. It is an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate our various cultures through food, languages, clothing and experiences.
This year, we will celebrate Cultural Diversity Week in Week 1 of Term 2 (22nd – 24th April) and are planning multiple activities, however we need your help!
Thursday 24th April
Traditional Food (Period 4 - 12:24pm – 1:24pm)
Each student will present a plate of food for tasting from their cultural background to their core class.
We ask that each student brings the following:
- A plastic or paper plate OR a small container of traditional food
- Finger food that is ready to serve and does not require utensils
- A full list of ingredients (we cannot serve the food without a full list of ingredients due to allergies, intolerances and preferences)
- Enough finger food to cater for around 20 students (your child’s core class)
- (Optional) Some background information about the dish – region, traditional cooking method, family history, etc.
- If required, we have some space for items that need to be refrigerated
Cultural Dress (Period 5 - 2:04pm – 3:04pm)
- Please help your child find cultural attire to wear on this day. All students are welcome to cultural clothing that represent the culture they identify with.
- On Thursday afternoon, we will hold a parade in the gym where each year level will be able to showcase their clothing as well as enjoy traditional music representing various cultures.
- We will be giving out prizes for best effort!
