Bonjour, parents and students!

Assessments have been in full swing over the past few weeks! Our students have been working hard and doing their very best. Thank you all for your attentiveness, respect and willingness to learn throughout this process. Keep up the great work!

Below is a snapshot of what each year level will be exploring during Weeks 7–8:

Prep

Students have been completing their oral assessment, which assesses their ability to respond to questions in French using familiar and formulaic language to communicate their intended meaning. They have also completed a written assessment using familiar French vocabulary and sentence structures related to introducing ourselves, feelings, food preferences, fruits, foods, farm animals and colours.

Grade 1

Students have been completing their oral assessment, which assesses their ability to respond to questions in French using familiar and formulaic language to communicate their intended meaning. They have also completed a written assessment using familiar French vocabulary and sentence structures related to introducing ourselves, the months of the year, greetings and emotions.

Grade 2

Students have completed their written assessment and are now preparing for their oral assessment. They have been creating their own interview questions in French about their age, suburb, nationality, languages they speak, birthday and favourite animal. They will then practise their French pronunciation with a partner in preparation for their assessment.

Grade 3

Students have been completing their written assessment, which assesses their knowledge of animals, adjectives, adverbs and verb conjugations. They will then create their own birthday invitation in French and practise how to politely accept or decline an invitation.

Grade 4

Students have been completing their written assessment, which assesses their knowledge of vowel sounds, reflexive verbs, adverbs, verbs using “être”, and foods they like and dislike. They will then explore French pronunciation, including the fact that some final consonants are usually silent and that the letters K, W and SH are rarely used in French.

Grade 5

Now that Grade 5 students have completed their written assessment, they have been learning about the difference between formal and informal language, including the purpose and context of casual expressions. They will then learn how to describe the layout of Tarneit Rise Primary School in French.

Grade 6

Now that Grade 6 students have completed their written assessment, they have been learning about the difference between formal and informal language and have created a comic incorporating some casual French expressions. They will then learn how to describe the layout of Tarneit Rise Primary School in French.

Keep up the fantastic work, everyone! Your continued effort, patience and enthusiasm will help you achieve great success.
