Physical Education News

Welcome back for our fourth PE newsletter for term 3. We’ve been working on some awesome skills over the past 2 weeks.

A special shoutout to Riya Ahamed in grade 6 for completing her 25th Park Run! Park Run is a 5km run around Presidents Park, Wyndham vale. Congratulations on this achievement and we hope you one day beat Mr Tivendale’s time there!

Team of the Week

We also have a shoutout for these 11 outstanding grade Prep students. The Team of the Week is a special acknowledgment of the amazing effort shown by students in PE. The students selected this week are from across the Prep cohort, as we finally have updated pictures of these little legends. We have added one student from each class who has been a stand out so far this year.

Preps

Preps have been hard at work practicing their throwing and their catching, with some awesome growth shown so far. As this is our second throwing and catching unit, we have had some revision over the key components of each of the skills, with a couple weeks of throwing and catching games to come before we assess their fundamentals early next term!

Grade 1s and 2s

Grade 1 and 2 students have also been completing a unit of throwing for power and accuracy. We have done a lot of practice on this over their time at Tarneit Rise and we hope it has allowed them to access more fun opportunities at home and in the community! We have adapted the targets so that they are higher, forcing students to adjust their throws and account for the flight and drop of their object.

Grade 3s and 4s

The grade 3 and 4 students have been smashing out the Fitness unit. With the cooper Run coming up in week 10, students are looking to increase their stamina and fitness to beat their previous score. The changes made to the circuit have been great and students ability to record their results over time is getting stronger by the week.

Grades 5s and 6s

Grade 5 and 6 students have also been smashing the Fitness unit. With their ability to record and their improved technique, students have been flying through the circuit to give us enough time for a finisher. Bring Sally Up squat challenge is a favourite at the moment. You can search it up on youtube for a quick leg burner at home.

We also remind families that the Cooper Run is super easy to set up year round. 25 metre measuring tape, 4 items to use as markers and a stopwatch are all that is needed. Students will know what it looks like. Give it a go at home!
