Visual Arts is back in action! 🎨 Let’s take a look at what we’ve been creating and learning over the past two weeks! 

Prep

Our Prep students have been buzzing with creativity! 🐝 They have been learning all about honeybees, how they make honey, and discovering the special hexagonal shape of a honeycomb. Students created their own honeycomb using yellow and orange paint, using a dabbing technique to add texture. They then drew their own honeybees, combining their new knowledge with creativity and imagination to create their artworks.

Grade 1

Our Grade 1 students have been exploring their local community and discussing the different stores, buildings and places they know. They worked collaboratively to create a large artwork called ‘Grade 1 Community’, drawing familiar places such as Kmart, coffee shops, schools, McDonald’s and many more! Students learned about the importance of working together, sharing ideas and contributing to a collaborative artwork where everyone’s creativity could be included. 

Grade 2

Our Grade 2 students have been exploring texture in art! They created their own vase and flower artworks, experimenting with different materials and techniques to add texture and interest. Students then used colourful tissue paper to bring their designs to life, creating vibrant artworks while exploring how different materials can be used as a form of artistic expression.

Grade 3

Our Grade 3 students have been exploring still life drawing by creating their own drawings of a flower vase. Students focused on the art element value, using different shades of light and dark to add depth, dimension and realism to their artworks. They carefully observed where the light and shadows fell, helping their flower vases appear more three-dimensional.

Grade 4

Our Grade 4 students have been learning about famous Pop Art artist Andy Warhol and exploring some of his unique Pop Art techniques. Students experimented with bright, bold colours, repeated images and vibrant patterns to create eye-catching artworks inspired by Warhol’s iconic style. They have enjoyed exploring how colour and repetition can transform everyday images into exciting works of art! 

Grade 5

Our Grade 5 students have been creating their own Pop Art self-portraits inspired by bold and colourful artistic styles. They explored the frottage technique, using textured surfaces to create interesting patterns and effects within their portraits. Students experimented with texture, colour and design to create unique and vibrant self-portrait artworks.

Grade 6

Our Grade 6 students have been busy exploring a range of artistic techniques! In Week 6, students created detailed echidna drawings, using only black, white and shades of grey to explore tone and value. In Week 7, they began creating 3D self-portraits using cardboard, experimenting with shape, form and construction to bring their portraits to life.
