The Power of Positive Self-Talk 🌟
The way we talk to ourselves can have a big impact on how we feel, think and respond to challenges. Positive self-talk means using kind, encouraging and helpful words when we are talking to ourselves — especially when things don’t go the way we hoped.
Sometimes our inner voice might say, “I can’t do this,” “I’m no good at this,” or “I’m going to get it wrong.” We can learn to pause and change those thoughts into something more helpful, such as:
“I can’t do this… yet.” “I can have a go and keep trying.” “Making mistakes helps me learn.” “I can take a breath and try again.” “I am proud of myself for having a go.”
Positive self-talk doesn’t mean pretending everything is easy or ignoring difficult feelings. It means reminding ourselves that we are capable of facing challenges, learning from mistakes and trying again.
🌱 Try it at home
Encourage your child to notice their inner voice this week. When they catch themselves saying something negative about themselves, ask:
“Is that something you would say to a friend?”
If not, encourage them to change it into something kind, realistic and encouraging.
🌟 A Leader in Me Connection
Positive self-talk connects beautifully with The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. In particular, Habit 1: Be Proactive reminds us that we can choose how we respond to situations and the words we use with ourselves.
We can’t always control what happens, but we can choose our response. By using positive self-talk, we take responsibility for our thoughts, build confidence and remind ourselves that we have the power topause, choose and try again.
At Le Page PS, we encourage our students to use their inner voice to lift themselves up — not hold themselves back. 💙 💚
✨ The Power of Positive Thinking & Attraction
The way we think can influence the way we see the world around us. The power of attraction is often described as focusing our thoughts and energy on the things we want to encourage in our lives. When we focus on gratitude, positivity, opportunities and what is possible, we are more likely to notice those things around us and take action towards them.
For adults, this might be as simple as starting the day with a positive intention:
“Today I’m going to focus on what I can control.” “I am open to good things happening today.” “I will look for the positives, even when things are challenging.” “I am capable of creating positive change.”
This doesn’t mean that positive thinking magically makes difficult things disappear. Rather, it can help shift our focus, attitude and actions, making us more aware of opportunities and more likely to approach life with hope and confidence.
What we focus on grows — so why not give the good things a little more of our attention?
