Fabulous Foundation!

Term 3 Week 8 - Friday 4th September 2026

OMG!! It’s the end of Week 8! Our amazing Preps have almost finished Term 3 of their first year of school and we couldn’t be prouder! So much has happened and there’s still plenty to be aware of.

Spring has sprung!! This means hats! Now that the weather will warm up and there will be lots more sunshine, the kids will need their hats. Please pack them into student bags and  PLEASE LABEL THE HATS WITH YOUR CHILDS NAME

It is incredible the amount of hats we get at school without names and this makes it very difficult to know who's who's. 

The last couple of weeks have been super busy with lots of highlights along the way. And whilst it has been busy, our high expectations remain the same and we have been so pleased with how our Preps have managed themselves and their behaviour. Their knowledge and understanding continues to develop along with their independence and confidence. Along with our Numeracy and Literacy and Inquiry, we had our whole school Athletics Carnival. This was such a successful day for the Preps. They participated well and had a great time! We’ve also had our Teddy Bear Hospital incursion and our Butterfly incursion. Both of these events were special for everyone that participated and it was fabulous to see all the students joining in and enjoying themselves.

What we are learning!

Maths:

In Maths over the last couple of weeks since our last newsletter, students have been learning about Grouping and Sharing. We have been exploring the concept of grouping objects and counting collections. We have also been exploring and developing our understanding of sharing into groups. We have been making sure we share our collections into equal groups so that it is fair for everyone. And more recently, we have started looking at what happens when we have leftovers or a remainder.

The students have particularly enjoyed being able to explore grouping and sharing through hands-on activities, games and practical experiences. They have been developing their understanding of how objects can be organised into groups and the importance of making sure groups are equal when sharing. The students have been using mathematical language to explain their thinking, make predictions and talk about what they notice when objects are grouped and shared. More recently, they have begun exploring what happens when a collection cannot be shared equally and there are objects left over. It has been wonderful to see the students developing their mathematical thinking, problem-solving skills and understanding of fairness through lots of play, investigation and hands-on learning. There have certainly been plenty of opportunities to share, explore and have fun along the way! 

Inquiry:

This term, we have started our exciting Inquiry unit, Habitats and Life Cycles. The students have been enjoying exploring the world around them and discovering what plants and animals need to survive and thrive. We have been learning about the different habitats where living things can be found and beginning to explore how animals grow and change throughout their lives. As we continue our learning, the students will investigate and compare different life cycles and discover the special features that help plants and animals survive in their environments. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they ask questions, share their ideas and learn more about the living world around them. 

Our most recent lesson focused on Butterflies and was the perfect lead into our Butterfly incursion. Students learned lots about the wonderful world of butterflies including their features and where they live.

A highlight of this unit was our Butterfly Incursion. This was a wonderful hands-on learning experience where students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the butterfly life cycle and see these amazing creatures up close. 

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have continued exploring rhyming couplets, rhyming words and poetry. The students have been enjoying listening to and exploring a range of fun and engaging texts, including The Terrible Plop, and have been developing their ability to identify words that rhyme. We have been talking about the rhythm and patterns we hear in poems and discovering how authors use rhyme to make their writing enjoyable to read and listen to.

The students have also been building their confidence in creating their own rhyming pairs and writing simple rhyming couplets. They have loved experimenting with words, sharing their ideas and using their imaginations to create poems of their own. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for poetry grow and to hear the creative and often very funny rhymes they are coming up with!

Phonics 

Leader In Me:

Students are also participating in regular Leader in Me (LIM) lessons each week. During these sessions, students are learning important skills such as being kind and respectful, making good choices, listening to others and working together positively with their classmates.

Monday:  Music, Auslan and RRRR 

Tuesday: Leader in Me, PE and Art 

Friday: Assembly (2.45pm in the hall, all parents welcome.)

Important reminders:

• Lost Property baskets are kept inside the glass doors of the BER and near the office of the main building.

• Please remember to check for your child’s Blue Satchel. This contains important information for the parents
