ACC Senior Girls Football Championships
On Tuesday, July 30th, our ACC Senior Girls progressed in our quarter-final match against All Saints. The game began with the girls dominating early, Daisy's skilful play set up Emily's goal in the 2nd minute. Just three minutes later, Mary finished after a quick one-two between Micah and Lara to make it 2-0. In the 20th minute, Ashley won the ball back and showed composure playing the pass inside, allowing Daisy to play a decent through ball to Lara, whose cut-back led to Mary scoring our third goal.
The second half saw Mary capitalise on a defensive error to score her third goal, giving us a comfortable 4-0 lead. However, when you create over 30 chances in the game and fail to take them you leave yourself vulnerable. All Saints fought back, scoring three goals late in the game, creating a tense finish. Despite the pressure, our girls held firm and secured a 4-3 victory.
This is the first girls team to progress to the Semi Finals of the ACC Championships so they should be extremely proud of their efforts. We look forward to our semi-final in Week 5.
SSWA Junior Boys Round of 16
On Thursday, August 1, our Junior Boys played against Darling Range at the Sam Kerr Football Centre. Despite missing several players due to injury and illness, the team showed our depth, creating 27 chances in the 60-minute game.
In the first half, while we generated several good opportunities, we couldn't capitalise on them. However, our composed possession play and solid defence, led by Levi at the back and Jack and Eamon in the middle, limited Darling Range in chances.
The breakthrough came in the second half. Jack won possession in midfield and passed to Eamon, who got past his defender with a drop of the shoulder and finished neatly into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Shortly after, Chess's work on the wing led to a cross for Eamon, whose shot was mishandled by the keeper, resulting in a handball and a penalty. Levi converted the penalty with confidence to make it 2-0.
In the 45th minute, Josh's excellent play down the left wing led to a cutback for Eamon, who danced past two defenders and made it 3-0. The fourth goal came in the 54th minute when we won the ball back in midfield, and a through ball found Harrison, who finished clinically.
In the final moments, we were awarded another penalty. Eamon stepped up to complete his hat trick and seal a 5-0 victory. The boys now advance to the quarter-final stage in Week 5. Congratulations on a great team performance and good luck in the next round!
SSWA Senior Boys Round 16
On July 24, our SSWA Senior Boys faced Mazenod in the round of 16. Despite their efforts, the boys were outplayed by an extremely well organised opponent. It has been a challenging season, with a lack of depth and commitment exposing the team at times. However, they battled hard throughout the match. Unfortunately, the game ended in a 5-1 loss. We did manage to pull a goal back late in the game, with Jake winning possession in the middle and showing good vision to play a nice through ball to Stirling. Stirling's first-time touch set up Lennon, who finished neatly into the bottom corner. Despite the result, I would like to thank Daniel, Alfred, Romeo and Aldrin for their efforts as they have all played their last game for the College.
