Year 12 Human Biology Zoo Excursion
As part of the Human Biology course, students in Year 12 visited the Perth Zoo on Friday 26 of July. They began the day with an educational experience run by staff at the zoo called Keeping up with the Neanderthals which provided an overview of some of the traits of early hominins. Students then enjoyed a talk from a keeper at the orangutan exhibit and observed the orangutans. The remaining time at the zoo was spent observing other primates and checking out the new café. The weather was fantastic and the animals were particularly active. Special thanks to Mr Lewis who helped with the supervision at the zoo and also drove the College bus.
Feedback from students
"The experience at the zoo was delightful. We were given an excellent insight into the great apes and our distant but extinct hominin relatives in the relatively new program 'Keeping up with the Neanderthals'. Overall, we gained a better appreciation for animals (especially elephants) and zoo conservation." - Kien (P1)
