Year One Team News

Hello Year One families,

Hooray! We made it to the end of Semester 1. It has been lovely to reflect on the wonderful year so far. Both teachers enjoyed meeting with families to celebrate and reflect on the progress the students have made, and the goals we have for the upcoming semester.

A big thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their time and efforts to support our Excursion, Reading program, Mother’s Day Stall and Kitchen Garden. We have posted sign up sheets for our Parent Helper Reading for Term 3, if you’re interested, please pop your name down. We will also need some wonderful volunteers to assist with our Warm Water Swimming Program towards the end of Term 3/early September. If this is something you can support us with, please complete the volunteer registration and touch base with your child’s teacher early next term.

We have so much in store for Term 3. Wishing you a restful, well-earned break! We can’t wait to see what the next semester brings!

Curriculum Focus: Week 1 & 2 

Reading: We will finish off the last two sounds in stage 7.3 of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. In Week 1 we will be learning oi/oy like oink and joy. In Week 2 we will be learning oo as in oops. 

Writing: In writing we will be learning sentence level grammar. In particular parts of speech, nouns, verbs and adjectives. 

Numeracy: 

In Maths we will practise our skip counting skills before we begin grouping and sharing in Week 2. 

Inquiry:  Our topic this term is ‘how are we connected to our part of the world and how are we connected to other parts of the world’. Our Show and Tells for Term 3 will closely link to this topic.

Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships:  

Our Willy Kids focus is “Willy Kids Manage their Emotions”. We will be learning to recognise how we are feeling and find ways to calm ourselves down. In respectful Relationships our topic this term is gender and identity. Over the first two weeks of Term 3 we will be learning how our identity is made up by our likes and dislikes.
