Year 5/6 Team News

with Christina, Edan, Molly, Melati, Laura & Matt

Hello Year 5/6 families,

WOW what a fabulous end to the term we have had. Our inquiry election was a huge success. The votes have been counted, and it was a nail-biting experience that came down to the wire with only a small number of votes separating the 5 parties. It goes to show how much effort and attention was given by all the students to collaborate, create and persuade their voters. Although, there can only be one winner, and the winner is the Purple Party: Willy as One! The party and Christina will meet with Mat and Lisa and negotiate their policies for a celebration day. The aim will be to put as many of their policies in place and ensure that purple party take on the top job for the day! Who knows, maybe some of these policies will find their way to the JSC and School Council for permanent practice! A big thanks goes out to the wonderful 5/6 parents who volunteered their time to cook and prepare the democracy sausages for our student voters. We couldn't have done this without your support!

Let's hear from our students about the election and the exciting interschool sport finals!

Student Voice:

Inter school sports finals

The winter Interschool sports season ended with a great outcome. In total five teams made it to the grand final, and all the other teams had so much fun, and demonstrated amazing sportsmanship.

Both the AFL  teams made it to the Grand final,  as well as both the hockey teams and even Softball mixed. This was an amazing outcome and two out of those five teams came home with the first place banner. Those teams were AFL mixed and hockey mixed. But all the teams who competed, even if they didn’t win, were outstanding.

All the teams who didn’t make it to finals still had an amazing time. Alternative were also so amazing and so supportive. Remember this is never possible without our fantastic coaches who coach all the teams. However, the main thank you is to Paddy, our P.E teacher. He organises all of this and without him this definitely would not be possible.

WPS Election

This term, the 5/6s have been focusing on democracy for our inquiry unit. We held a school election day that was attended by the Mayor. Students also enjoyed a classic democracy sausage sizzle! There were five parties fighting for the most votes including the Marigold Party, the Better Fuchsia Party, The Denim Blues, the Olive Party and the Willy As One Party.

Thank you to the parents who came into school and helped cook the sausages. Also thanks to the parents, teachers and students who gave up their time to vote in the election. The biggest thank you is for Molly, who organised this whole unit. It couldn’t have been possible without her.

But who won the election? The winner of the election was the Willy As One Party! Great job to Willy As One for winning and great job to all the parties for putting in so much effort for the campaign!
