A Wonderful Way to Finish Term 2
What a way to wrap up the term! Watching our Grade 3/4 students lead their own Student Conferences on Tuesday was wonderful - they were so proud to share their highlights and achievements with you. The confidence they showed in talking about their learning is something to celebrate.
Our students have worked hard throughout the term and have certainly earned a well-deserved break. We wish all families a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 3.
Curriculum Focus: Term 3, Weeks 1 & 2
Literacy
In Reading this fortnight we will focus on comprehension strategies and features of procedural texts. Students will look at how instructional writing changes depending on the intended audience.
Procedural texts will also be the focus of Writing this fortnight. Students will be looking at how procedural texts are created for different audiences. They will practice using the features, conventions and vocabulary of procedural writing.
Numeracy — Shape, Area and Perimeter
In Shape students will make, compare and classify objects by their key features and uses. They will also explain and compare the geometric properties of 2D shapes and 3D objects.
In Area and Perimeter students will recognise ways of measuring and approximating the perimeter and area of shapes and enclosed spaces, using appropriate formal and informal units.
Inquiry
This term's inquiry question is "What does living sustainably look like in our local community?" The unit begins with a CERES excursion, looking at ways to be sustainable. Students will also learn about sustainable design and First Nations approaches to sustainability.
Willy Kids
This term's topic is "Willy Kids are Resilient,". Willy Kids learn to be resilient by focusing on managing emotions, being brave, bouncing back, persevering and staying positive.
Respectful Relationships
In Term Three, students are looking at gender norms and stereotypes, developing awareness of the ways that gender stereotypes in media and literature influence gender norms and challenging negative gender norms experienced in their own school or community contexts.
Homework
Homework is a valuable tool in reinforcing what is being learnt at school. We want our students to think of homework as being an important activity that assists in preparation for life-long learning. All students will receive their homework at school on a Monday and it is due back at school on Friday of the same week.
Homework tasks include:
All students have a Homework Book in which they are encouraged to complete their tasks. Please contact your child’s teacher if there are any concerns or questions about the homework tasks.
