REMINDERS - Home Reading
* Just a reminder that reading at home is one of the best ways you can support your child's learning journey.
* We apologise for the delay in changing over student readers. We are getting a routine established to allow for this to happen weekly. Please remember that there is access to the online platform also!
* Over the next week, we will be chatting with some students about incorporating chapter books into their reading repertoire as they are beyond the decodable texts now. They will be encouraged to borrow interest-based chapter and non-fiction texts during Library sessions but are also welcome to select books from home libraries too.
Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In the coming weeks, students will strengthen phonemic awareness through morning phonics sessions and engage with 'Tiddler' to explore sentence types, modality words, and tenses. They will also expand their vocabulary using background knowledge and new information to enhance understanding, make connections, and deepen comprehension.
Maths
Over the next few weeks in maths, students will begin learning about addition and subtraction. They will develop their partitioning to help them learn written algorithms. They will use MAB blocks, number bonds, and number lines to add and subtract two-digit numbers. They will also learn to determine the number of days between events using a calendar and read time on an analog clock to the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour.
A little bit of fun in 2A and 2B using our shape rotation cards as cheesy grins!!!
Science - Push and Pull Forces
Students will explore the strength and direction of push and pull forces and their effects on objects' movement and shape. They will explore the concept of gravity and conduct floating and sinking experiments to explore buoyant force. Students will design and build a device using pushes or pulls.
Essential Questions
- How do push and pull forces affect the shape and movement of objects?
- What are the effects of gravity and buoyancy?
