We are excited to get back into our learning! We learned the letters Yy for Yasmin Yak, Rr for Roxy Rabbit and Ee for Eddie Elephant.
Some of the CVC words we have been learning to read and write include: yam, rat, bin, and yip. We are also exploring nonsense words such as bim, pib, and han.
Our mentor text to begin Term 2 is The Very Cranky Bear. Here is a link to the story: The Very Cranky Bear.

Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been exploring the concept of part–part–whole. This foundational idea helps children understand that a number (the whole) can be made up of smaller numbers (the parts). By learning how numbers can be broken apart (decomposed) and put back together (composed), students build a strong basis for addition and subtraction.
During our learning, students have been working on:
- Partitioning numbers to 5 into two parts using hands-on materials
- Identifying and representing different combinations that make numbers to 5
- Partitioning numbers to 10 into two parts using materials
This approach supports students in developing flexible thinking about numbers and strengthens their early numeracy skills.
During our Applied Mathematics sessions, we have been learning about Location. We are learning to describe the position of familiar objects using words such as inside, underneath, top or bottom.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we have been exploring Positive Coping Activities (Topic 3: Activities 1–2 and 3–4). Students have enjoyed participating in an emotions game with their classmates, helping them to recognise and better understand a range of feelings. They have also been learning about the benefits of positive self-talk and how it can support their overall wellbeing.
In the coming weeks, we will continue with Topic 3 by exploring Positive Coping Activity 5.

Reminders
Satchels and Home Reading
Students have received their flashcards, Boomerang Book, and a decodable reader to support their reading at home. Please ensure your child’s satchel is returned to school each day. Your child must return their coloured decodable book before they can take another home.
There is a QR code inside your child’s Boomerang Book which allows you to access Little Learners Love Literacy books online for additional reading practice at home. Here is a link to assist with reading: Reading at Home
Here is a link to the Cued articulation we use, however, please note that we are not currently teaching all of the sounds featured in this video.
Library
Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!
Library Times:
Prep A, B, C, D, E Thursdays
Shoelaces
We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.
Our New Playground!
The Prep students were excited to enjoy a special sneak peek of our brand-new playground before the rest of the school! They had a fantastic time exploring the space while learning important safety rules to keep everyone happy and safe. The clear favourite was the bright yellow slide, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter!
Dojo Rewards
Congratulations to all students who have achieved their Bronze Award (75 points). Certificates have been presented in class, and students will select their reward in consultation with their teacher.
