Camp
Our recent camp at Waratah Bay was a fantastic experience, and we couldn’t be prouder of how the students conducted themselves. They were enthusiastic, positive, and embraced every activity with great energy. The beautiful weather certainly added to the experience, allowing everyone to make the most of the stunning surroundings. Throughout the camp, students showed kindness, resilience, and teamwork, making them an absolute pleasure to take away. It was wonderful to see them step outside their comfort zones, support one another, and create lasting memories together.
The Next Fortnight of Learning
Mathematics
Over the next two weeks in Mathematics, students will be focusing on building their understanding of decimals and elapsed time. They will be working on reading, ordering, and performing operations with decimals, as well as solving real-world problems involving time intervals. Alongside this, students will continue to develop their multiplication fact fluency, with regular practise to help improve both speed and accuracy. Strengthening these core skills will support their confidence and success across all areas of maths.
Literacy
To kick off this term, Grade 6 students will be diving into an engaging literacy program designed to build their confidence and skills as readers and writers. In reading, we’ll be exploring the novel Can You See Me by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott, using it to spark conversations about perspective, empathy, and understanding others’ experiences. Students will be encouraged to share their thinking, make connections, and explore the themes and characters in depth. In writing, our focus will be on persuasive texts, where students will learn how to clearly express their opinions, back them up with strong reasons, and use convincing language to engage their audience. We’re looking forward to a term full of thoughtful discussions and exciting learning.
Science
To kick off this term in Science, students will be exploring all things space! They will be learning about the solar system, including planets, moons, and the Sun, and investigating how these celestial bodies move and interact. Students will also look at concepts such as gravity, day and night, and how Earth’s rotation and orbit affect our daily lives. Students will build their understanding of the universe and hopefully develop their curiosity about the world beyond our planet.
Wellbeing
This term in Wellbeing, students will be revisiting key strategies from the Berry Street Education Model to support their emotional regulation, focus, and readiness to learn. They will also begin Topic 2 of the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, where they will explore important concepts around relationships, emotions, and respectful interactions. These lessons aim to build students’ confidence, resilience, and ability to positively navigate social situations both in and out of the classroom.
