Principal's Report
Tim Bernau | Principal
Dear Skye Families,
With negotiations on the next Victorian Government Schools Agreement continuing, AEU members are scheduled to participate in a half-day 'stop work' on Tuesday 12th May. Information about the running of the school on that day will be shared with the community late next week.
As part of the broader industrial action, participating staff will not be providing written comments on Semester 1 reports. With the majority of Skye staff involved in this protected action, we will be taking a consistent approach to the format of Semester 1 reports to ensure all students receive an equitable experience. Should an agreement not be reached in the coming week, specific information regarding the report format will be communicated to families via Sentral.
Enrolment applications for 2027 Foundation students are now open, and interest has again been strong. If you have a sibling due to begin school next year, please apply online via our enrolments page. The Department has transitioned to a secure online enrolment system called VicStudents, which has streamlined the process considerably. If you experience any difficulty, please contact our front office.
We look forward to celebrating with our Skye mums this Thursday 7th May. Thank you to all of the mums who have purchased tickets for the event; we look forward to seeing you there. Please note that ticket sales have now closed. Join us in the Gym from 1:45pm for afternoon tea, before moving into classrooms at 2:30pm for in-class activities.
During Education Week this year, we will be hosting a Maths Open Afternoon on Tuesday 19th May, providing families with an insight into the teaching and learning of Mathematics across our school. For interested parents, there will be an information session in the Library at 2:30pm where we will outline our approach to teaching Mathematics at Skye. From 3:30pm, families are invited to participate in Maths activities around the school, exploring the different curriculum strands together.
We were pleased to open the new junior Playground last week, and the response from students has been very positive. It's been great to see them enjoying the new equipment and playing safely. A reminder that our school grounds are open to the community outside of school hours and on weekends, and families are welcome to make use of the facilities.
Warm regards,
Tim
