Literacy:

In Little Learners, we are learning about the sounds 'ar' and 'or/aw'. We are using our chitter chatter chants 'art party', 'Mr Shaw', and 'sports shorts' to help us remember.

We will be sending home new Heart Words. Please take some time to practice these words. It really helps your child's growth in reading. Ideally, we would like families to read the Little Learner's books 3-4 times a week. Please speak to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

In Writing, we have been focusing on Aesop's fables and have already looked at 'The Owl and the Grasshopper', 'The Spider and the Fly', 'The Crow and the Fox' and 'The Dog and the Bone'.

If you are interested in expanding your home reading, here is a copy of the first few fables we have been reading:

We are using these texts to inspire our learning of word types (nouns, adjectives and verbs) and help expand our sentence-level writing.

Numeracy:

In Math, we are continuing our great work on addition and subtraction. Using strategies like partitioning, subitising, bar models, and number bonds, to solve problems all the way to 20. We be starting a new topic on counting and place value next week.

Inquiry:

We have just begun a new unit learning about weather and seasonal changes. We are excited to learn all about weather, seasons, rain, hibernation and migration.

Wellbeing:

In wellbeing, we are focusing on positive coping skills. We are looking at why it is important to take turns. As well as cheering up and calming down strategies.
