VET Hospitality City Excursion

Our 2nd year VET Hospitality and Cookery students had a jammed packed visit to the city in March.

The day commenced with a brisk walk around The Victoria Market. Students had to identify many varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs. They were blown away by the array of fresh seafood and wished they had more time to browse the wonderful delights of this market. Highlights were of course the tasting opportunities in the delicatessen hall.

Next came a tram ride and sunny walk to the Langham Hotel for a guided tour around the guest rooms, kitchens and stores. Students then enjoyed a fabulous buffet lunch selecting from numerous cuisines in a 5-star environment.  Lots of full bellies after this!

To work off the lunch, more walking to William Angliss Institute for a guided tour of the training kitchens and dining areas.  This gave the students a look at future pathways for their careers in the hospitality industry.

Our next venue was the RACV private city club. Students were able to view guest rooms, function rooms and kitchens, exclusive dining room, members only sports club and Le Petit Gateau kitchen.  Chef de Cuisine, Craig, gave an in depth commentary about the club operations and the hospitality industry.

A very full day with many tired bodies on the train ride home!
