St Vincent De Paul - Conference Day

On Thursday, the 3rd of May, teachers and students along with cluster leaders of the Winton cluster, attended the St Vincent de Paul College Conference Day which was held at Abbotsford Convent. The conference was held by St Vincent de Paul youth participants who have recently graduated from high school and have become a part of a team who gives back to people who face social injustices in our community.

This day brought together representatives from 25 different schools across Melbourne to take in information on how to be ‘Vincentian’, and incorporate this attribute back in to each school. The term ‘Vincentian’ describes the set of attributes and values each supporting member of St Vincent De Paul has. It means giving selflessly to others and putting a hand up rather than giving a hand out. Throughout the conference, activities and inspirational talks, key themes of commitment, compassion, respect, integrity, empathy, advocacy and courage bloomed amongst the rest; which inspired all of the students.

Winton’s goal in term 3 is to work on a social justice issue and make a change for the community. Winton focuses on supporting the St Vincent de Paul Society for this project and through attending the conference day were able to not only walk away inspired and touched, but walk away from each of the activities and workshops with a mind full of ideas on how we can make this change within the school community in engaging ways just as the youth group demonstrated during the conference.

In the following weeks to come, more information on how Catholic Regional College Sydenham will contribute to the St Vinnies Society will be distributed throughout the school community.
