Nice and early each Tuesday morning, at 7:15am, a fabulous, committed and enthusiastic group of students from Year 7 – Year 11 meet Ms Johnson and Ms Keeler in the dance studio and strut their moves. They have been warming up, learning technique and a Hip Hop routine.
On Thursdays after school, our Wakakirri rehearsals have been underway. We have a talented and creative student leadership team who are leading this year’s Wakakirri entry that tells the story of a young girl navigating mental illness throughout various stages in her life.
A big thank you to Alley, Liana, Krystabel, Bessie and Karis for ALL the work these 5 students are doing both behind the scenes and in rehearsals.
Bessie and Karis have been teaching the Year 7 group some beautiful gestural phrases; while Alley, Liana and Krystabel have been working with the intermediate and senior students on their phrases.
The Year 9 Dance class and Dance Club were privileged to have guest teacher Paige Sutherland visit in February and teach a couple of fabulous dance classes. Paige worked with the Year 9's on a Hiphop-Jazz routine and with Dance Club students on a Contemporary routine. Both groups thoroughly enjoyed their dance experience with Paige.
Top Class VCE Dance excursion
On Thursday 18th March, the two VCE Dance classes travelled to the Melbourne Recital Centre with Ms Sabell, to watch the annual Top Class concert, which showcases some of the top solos from the previous year. This was an inspiring event, with students coming away really enthusiastic to get back to the dance studio and work on their own solos. It was so refreshing to get back into a theatre and experience some live dance after the COVID year of lockdowns and lack of live shows available last year.
Arts Week - Dance Workshop
Following on from running a dance workshop for the theatre enhancement class, our Dance captains, Alley Rees and Liana Samson-Piniata,
ran a fabulous lunchtime dance class as part of ARTS WEEK, with lots of fun and creative moves in the dance studio for students across the year levels.
Big thanks to our captains!
