Debating

After a year of debating via Google Meet and Zoom, we are now back to debating in person, with covid safe guidelines.

On the evening of Tuesday 16th of March, our season officially restarted at Peninsula Grammar, with a C grade debate against John Paul College. The topic was “That alcoholic products should be subject to plain packaging laws”, with our team debating for the negative team. Charlie Jones (Y10), Hugo Barras (Y10) and Boyd Hill (Y9) worked hard to prepare for our first in person debate of the year, and their hard work paid off with a win! Charlie also received best overall speaker for this debate.

Well done, boys!

Lions Youth of the Year

This year Dromana College sent three students to represent our school in the Dromana Lions Youth of the Year Competition, held in February.

We were represented by Lauren Baensch, Yvette Dixon and Vivienne Floyd of Year 11. The girls were interviewed by a panel of judges, quizzed on their general knowledge and then had to prepare a speech in front of an audience. Lauren chose to talk about the importance of men’s mental health, Yvette gave a summary of the history of pop music, and Vivienne explained why nuclear power should not be used. All three girls were a credit to the school.

Yvette won the public speaking award, and Lauren won the overall award and represented our school again in Trafalgar on March 29th. During this second round, Lauren won the public speaking award.

Well done, girls!
