Principal's Message
Mrs Josie Crisara
Happy Easter to all students, parents and staff. May the joyful season and the accompanying holidays bring hope, happiness and renewed energy. Easter is a time to reflect on the sacrifice Christ made for us and to rejoice in his resurrection. It is a time to be grateful for God’s love and mercy. May you find inspiration in the resurrection, and may God’s love and grace be with you. Take the opportunity for a break to spend quality time with loved ones and cherish what matters most: family and friends.
Term 1 has been busy, with not just classroom teaching and learning, but also with co-curricular events, many of which students can volunteer and engage in. It is the breadth of opportunities that students involve themselves with which broadens their horizons and skills. From sports to performing arts, debating, and special events such as Harmony Week and Easter. The Performing Arts Captains' concert, led by students, was a quality event that showcased talent from primary through to secondary. There was great learning for all involved and many happy parents, grandparents and students.
Mickleham Road Upgrade - Stage 1
An update from Major Road Projects Victoria
We’re building extra lanes, upgrading key intersections and installing new traffic lights on Mickleham Road to reduce congestion and improve safety and travel times.
What's been happening
In March, we continued realigning the roundabout at Mickleham and Somerton roads and started relocating communications services under Mickleham Road.
We also continued:
- pipe protection works on the eastern side of Somerton Road, and at the intersection of Mickleham and Somerton roads
- service investigation works along Mickleham and Somerton roads
- removing some trees and vegetation to make space for the new shared walking and cycling path on Mickleham Road.
What we're doing and when
In April, we'll continue:
- the realignment of the roundabout at Mickleham and Somerton roads
- jet fuel pipeline protection and water main relocation works south of Somerton Road
- service proving works along Mickleham Road
- relocating telecommunications cables from Aitken College to Garibaldi Road
- Telstra trenching and boring works along Mickleham Road
- earthworks on Mickleham Road between Lemonwood Drive and Greenvale Gardens Boulevard.
Most of these works will take place between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm, Saturdays. At times we’ll need to work outside of these hours to minimise impacts on traffic during the day.
The progress of these works will depend on weather and ground conditions. If we need to work at night, we’ll let you know ahead of time.
What to expect
Traffic changes
There are changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits, lane closures and temporary traffic barriers, traffic lights and temporary line marking on Mickleham and Somerton roads while works take place.
There are also temporary footpath closures in place while we relocate services and build new lanes on Mickleham Road.
Upcoming works
In mid-April there will be nightworks at the roundabout at Mickleham and Somerton roads to undertake line marking works.
If you’re likely to be affected by these works, we’ll contact you ahead of time.
Construction impacts
Our construction activities may generate low to medium levels of noise, dust, and vibration at times. We’ll be monitoring impacts to ensure they’re kept to a minimum.
Please phone us on 1800 105 105 if you have any questions while our works are taking place.
