Anti-Bullying Campaign Winner

Congratulations to Connor Algie of 10F, one of the 3 senior student winners for the Victorian Education Department’s current anti-bullying campaign addressing cyber bullying and promoting online upstander behavior. Students across Victoria were invited to get creative and design a poster that promotes upstander behaviour and the theme #ihaveyourback. While it can be hard to see someone being bullied, it’s even harder to be the person being bullied. An upstander is a person who speaks or acts in support of an individual or cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being attacked or bullied. This opportunity was incorporated into the yr 11 Visual Communication Design curriculum as an part of their assessment. As a special guest, Connor was invited to join Max Gawn from the Melbourne Football Club and other winners to be presented with their prizes at the official launch of the second #ihaveyourback video held at the MCG in the Melbourne Football Club Boardroom. Connor received a $200 gift voucher  and his poster will be printed and sent to all Victorian schools to be displayed. Our college will also be receiving $2500 which students in the Visual Communication Design class have unanimously decided to put towards ‘creating engaging, inspiring and uplifting spaces around the school’ Congratulations again to Connor Algie and his fantastic efforts.

Road Smart Excursion

Last week all Year 10’s had a Road Safety workshop in school, followed by an in car / off road excursion at Sandown Raceway.  As part of this excursion students had an opportunity to drive with a driving instructor – many for the first time behind the wheel.  Some students already have their learners who got to demonstrate how much they have learned driving with family.  But most of the students don’t even have their Learners and several were very much out of their comfort zone.

By the end of the day all students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and most of them have the confidence and interest to go out and get their Leaners, and get back behind the wheel and practice their driving skills.
