Produce a Scarecrow

Year 12 VCAL classes took part in a collaborative learning day where their critical and creative thinking skills were put to the test. The students had to work as a team, plan resources, address sustainability, meet deadlines and manage their time to produce a scarecrow. These employability skills are so important in the work place. Students were very engaged and enthusiastic with the set task. At the end of the day, many skills were used to produce the most creative scarecrows.  The quality of the products and attention to detail was exceptional. “Scary Potter” was the winner of the day closely followed by the Wolf and the Three Little pigs. The most sustainable scarecrow was made from 100% cardboard and was linked to a QR Code reader which gave us all the information about the scarecrow. This clever idea was designed by Zac Edwards and George Talbot. Unfortunately not all groups could win but all students who were involved could walk away having demonstrated exceptional work related skills. Well Done to all Year 12 VCAL students. An amazing and enjoyable day was had by both students and teachers!

Mornington Running Festival

On 22nd September, 45 VCAL students and staff(many non-runners) will be participating in the Mornington Running Festival which supports the charity “Beyond Blue”. This charity provides information and support to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health, whatever their age and wherever they live.  Currently 3 million Australians are living with anxiety or depression. As part of the VCAL criteria students have to create an awareness of a community issue. This year students has the choice of running or walking 5km, 10km or 21km half marathon events, along the popular picturesque esplanade from Mornington heading towards Mt Martha.

Parents or friends are very welcome to participate and can register for the event online or on the day at Mornington Park. Students would appreciate the support and all the students are hoping the sun will shine on the day. I am sure many photos will follow in the next newsletter.
