Learn To Swim Program

Hampton Park Secondary College took initiative in the "learn to swim" program conducted over the course of one week. 22 EAL students attended the program, receiving coaching from trainers from the Life Saving Club of Victoria at the Oasis swimming pool in Dandenong. Students begun the first lesson learning to float on water using a paddle board in the shallow end of the pool, and eventually gained the requisite skill and confidence to float in the deep end of the pool by the end of the program. All students thoroughly enjoyed the swimming lessons and learnt vital skills in the water.

42 EAL students took part in a Water Safety and Rescue program on the 6th of December. Life Saving Victoria's EAL Beach Program provides practical education to students, pertaining to life saving techniques and water safety messages. A variety of activities are specifically designed and tailored for EAL groups and are conducted by qualified instructors from Life Saving Victoria. These activities include teaching board paddling skills, rescue techniques, use of life jackets, importance of swimming between beach flags, and snorkeling. Students also play soccer and cricket, and receive a Water Safety Presentation as part of the program. 

The Highlight of the day was Seeing Hassan One of our ex-EAL student as a lifeguard and trainer at the program.

Hassan has taken part in all programs run by LSV in HP. Such as- “Meet a lifeguard”,” Resuscitate a mate” ( CPR training), Swimming lessons and the beach program. Hassan was one out of many students who joined LSV’s Pool Life guard training ( after school hours)

Hassan is such an inspiration to all our students.

I would like to especially thank Rabecca, Prunelle, Emily, Barb , Prue and all MEAs for accompanying the students to the pool and to the beach in addition to Andrea for providing transport and Debbie for supporting me in to run all such program to its best possible way.
