Wellbeing Report

It’s the end of 2021 and we are now looking forward to a ‘COVID normal’ in 2022.  The wellbeing team have been kept busy supporting students and their families during a challenging time!  We are aware of the challenges that students have faced in remote learning and isolation and sincerely hope that over the Christmas holidays our students are able to spend quality family time together.  Here’s a tip sheet on how to stay healthy and active over the holidays:

Doctors In Secondary School Program:

We announced in our last NewsHamper that in 2022 we will have a Doctor located at the school.  To update our community, there will be a purpose-built Doctor’s Clinic placed onsite near the E block during January and we will be welcoming our school Doctor around mid February 2022.

Students will have access to a Doctor at school one day per week, with the day yet to be finalised.  We are currently developing a central booking system that will be released early February.

The Doctors in Secondary School Program details are:

  • Students have access to confidential care that is a fundamental component of youth friendly care
  • The Doctor complements a range of school-based health and wellbeing services and programs
  • For adolescents, confidentiality has been shown to:
    • Increase comfort
    • Reduce anxiety
    • Increase trust
    • Increase the likelihood of future visits
    • Important to acknowledge the desire of parents to be involved whilst maintaining trust in the confidentiality of the GP consultation

If any parent/carer has questions about the Doctors in Secondary School program, please contact Student Services Leader, Debbie Edwards on 8795 9400.

Sporting Change/School Lawyer Program:

We are very excited to announce that we have developed a partnership with Springvale Monash Legal Service.  In 2022 we will be introducing the Sporting Change and School Lawyer Program.  More details will follow soon, but here’s a snapshot...

Breakfast Club:

Our Breakfast Club program is a huge part of our HPSC community, and we are fortunate enough to have been able to run throughout this year around the lockdowns. Breakfast is such an important part of the day, and we want to make sure that our students have a full stomach to help them with their learning.

This year we were able to secure donations from Foodbank Victoria, Bakers Delight and Kinfolk. We are very grateful for the generosity of these organisations and hope that their partnership with HPSC can continue into 2022.

We had our final Breakfast Club on Thursday 9th Dec at 8:15am in the E Block kitchen, where we served pancakes and waffles! All students and staff were welcomed to celebrate another wonderful year of Breakfast Club!

Rainbow Collective:

This year was our second year of running our Rainbow Collective LGBTIQA+ community group, and it was another year of success!

Even though many of our celebrations days, like Wear It Purple Day were online again this year, we made it work with the support of our amazing Rainbow Collective members!

We had our last Rainbow Collective hang out on Tuesday 7th Dec, and we celebrated a great year with unicorn themed cupcakes and other delicious snacks!

We are looking forward to 2022 and the opportunities that the year will bring with advocacy, raising awareness and celebrating our LGBTIQA+ community at HPSC.

Calling all Lego Master Builders!

Lego Club is starting up next year!

A1 has a heap of Lego and we are inviting all year 7's and 8's to use it.  Every Tuesday at Lunch, come get creative with Lego and meet other fun builders like you! There is limited space, so make sure you sign up ASAP in A1 next year.

Staying HEALTHY Over the Holiday Break!

It’s been a big year!  Holidays are a great time to do something different and REFRESH for the year ahead. Enjoy getting active, eating well and lots of good sleep.  A picture is worth a thousand words so check out the info graphic to get you thinking....

The wellbeing team take this opportunity to wish our staff, students and school community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. See you in 2022!

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM

16 Days of Activism is a widely recognised global campaign that signifies action towards ending violence against women and girls around the world. The 16 days campaign began on the international day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (Nov 25th) and ends on International Human Rights Day (10th Dec). The dates of the campaign were chosen to link violence against women and human rights.

This year, the HPSC Wellbeing and Respectful Relationships team organised activities for HPSC staff and students. The theme for HPSC was ‘Respect’. The purpose was to start a conversation with students about what respect means for them and what a respectful relationship is.

During lunchtimes the Wellbeing team captured student photos with our customised 16 Days of Activism selfie frame. We also provided custom Respectful Relationships water bottles and snacks.

Ms Fee’s Art class did an amazing job in creating artwork for the campaign. Students had the opportunity to discuss what respect meant to them by portraying their ideas through their art.

Have a look out for the 16 Days of Activism photo frame and student’s artwork which will be proudly displayed on the HPSC wall.

Mr Yuen has also developed a promotional video with our HPSC students discussing what a respectful relationship means to them. For our staff this year, we ran a Teams quiz to raise awareness on gender-based violence.
