Bush to Base

One of Girton’s instrumental teachers has recently joined the Bendigo branch of the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) and will run/ride/walk virtually from the Essendon RFDS base to a ‘bush base’ in Murrayvillle.

Mr Kaid Normington will travel 510 km in sixty days. He has elected to virtually travel to the furthest airbase in Victoria from the Essendon airport and his decision will mean he will need to travel approximately 12km each day during the challenge.

In Australia, there are more than 42,000 people who can’t easily access basic healthcare because of where they live—no ambulance, no GP, no midwife, no dentist, no mental health professional within an hour’s drive. The Royal Flying Doctor Service has been helping Australians bridge this gap for over 90 years, and in Victoria, the service is dedicated to ensuring everyone has easy access to primary and allied health services, no matter where they live.
