Ensembles Concerts 2022

After three years, the Ensembles Concerts were finally back on stage, and we once again had students performing at Ulumbarra Theatre. Many students who last performed at an Ensembles Concert were in Year 12 in 2019. In context, many students from the graduating class of 2019 are now graduating from university. Sharing our student's work with their families and friends is always a wonderful moment and important, both as a sharing of progress and a marker that we are finally regaining a little bit of normality in our lives.

Both Senior and Junior Ensembles Concert were great successes and well attended by parents, family, students and staff. The high quality of performance from all groups and the entertaining variety of repertoire are remarkable considering the past few years of COVID interruptions and the break in the continuity of learning. The talented Girton staff and students had been preparing for this event for an extended period and were all proud to be able to present to such an enthusiastic audience.

Across the two evenings of Senior and Junior School Ensembles Concerts, almost 550 students crossed the stage to share their skills and development with their friends and family. The audience was treated to high-quality performances from ensembles ranging from Big Band, senior choirs, junior and senior concert bands, junior and senior orchestras, numerous guitar ensembles, Bell Choir, junior choirs and a finale of a massed Junior School choir and orchestra. The Girton Ensembles Concerts are a testimony to the work of our students under the guidance of their passionate and talented music teachers.

Performing in a music ensemble teaches students to learn to listen, grow and develop as a musical team. The comprehensive music program at Girton Grammar School encourages individual tuition, ensemble involvement and classroom music lessons from Prep to VCE to create a well-rounded and complete musical journey for our students. Ensemble performances, like those at the Ensembles Concerts, allow students to share the joy of learning with their friends, family, teachers and community.

Without the support of parents, students, our Acting Head, Head of Junior School, and the Board, the musical opportunities available for students at Girton would not exist. Thank you to those who provide ongoing support to Music, particularly our Music Staff.
