State Badminton Final

The Girton Senior Boys Badminton team got an early start on Thursday, August 11th, travelling on the 6:10am train to Melbourne to compete in the School Sports State Final. The team consisting of Aksharan Shobanan (11R), Dhruv Gupta (12M), Cortez Smith (12A), and Joshua Perry (11R) qualified for the tournament earlier this year by winning the Sandhurst and Loddon Mallee Finals.

The first match of the day was against East Doncaster Secondary College, which was a very strong team, but each player fought hard, challenging their opponents in both singles and doubles.

The second match was against Bright P-12 College. The match was very close, coming down to the last game. Girton led by one game after the fifth game, with the last doubles game remaining. The scores were tight, but Bright won, thus it came down to points. Unfortunately, Girton fell just a couple of points short.

In the third match, Girton played against Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA), who yet again were tough opponents. Regardless, the players gave it their all but were unlucky to lose.

Overall, the day was a fantastic experience, and the team played exceptionally well given the high level of competition.

Thank you to the team for a wonderful day, our coach Martin Nanere for preparing and training us all year, and Dr Itter for her assistance and support.
