Remembrance Day 2022

Ellen Glass, Teacher

Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on the nation’s calendar. From the first anniversary of the Armistice 104 years ago, 11 November has become a day for Australians to reflect on the sacrifice made by all our service personnel, past and present, and the hardships of their families and communities in times of war and peace.

As part of the school’s commemorations, three of our Year 10 IGNITE students, Beth, Hugh and Nick, took the opportunity to formally pay their respects on behalf of the school by laying a wreath during the Morphett Vale RSL Remembrance Day Service. The sun shone down on the quiet, yet moving ceremony attended by Aberfoyle Park High School, other local schools, RSL members, veterans and members of the community.

It was wonderful to see Beth, Hugh and Nick participate in the ceremony with great maturity and respect, along with so many other young people who came together to show what Remembrance Day means to them. It is clear that our nation’s history is in safe hands.
