Southern Schools Cup

On Monday 21 November students travelled to Wirreanda Secondary School to compete in the second annual Southern Schools Cup. A range of sporting opportunities were made available including basketball, football, soccer, netball and cross country. It was great to see our students giving their all while connecting with their peers through sport.

Girls’ Basketball

Our girls basketball team were competing against a strong Wirreanda team in what would be their only game for the day. With little experience on our side, the game commenced with a reasonable start with the first quarter ending closer than anticipated with some creative play by Nikita, Shontae and Zoe. The second quarter saw the game getting more physical and Wirreanda began to pull away.

The girls worked hard and managed to score some exciting goals to exceed their our own expectations. In the second half we saw great defensive work and ball handling from Nikita again and a skilful three pointer from Year 7 Zara. In the end Wirreanda were too strong and took the win with a commanding lead.

Year 8-10 Boys’ Soccer

The first game, against Wirreanda, was initially a tense affair and we fell behind early to a well taken chance from inside the six yard box. However, it didn’t take long for the boys in maroon to equalize when Yauble headed home after following up a fierce shot from outside the box. A brace from Luke and a single from Aiden put the game away in the second half. Ryan was a commanding presence at the back throughout the game and Cooper dominated the midfield in a 4-2 win.

The second fixture, against Reynella East, was a high scoring affair with both keepers kept busy throughout the game. The teams exchanged goals early  before Aberfoyle Park High School pulled away to win convincingly 6-3. Ryley showed drive in the midfield and Blake capped off a busy performance with a goal. In goal, Issac showed composure in the blustery conditions, making a number of impressive saves.
