Co-Curricular Sport Term 3

Thank you to all coaches, old scholars, parents, teachers and managers for their time and contributions to the Blackfriars Winter Co-Curricular Program. It is through the efforts of all these people that allow students the opportunity to participate in the sport or activities they enjoy while developing a sense of community, learning new skills and strengthening friendships with their peers.

 

Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) Awards

The Gosse Medal Presentation was held on Monday 9th September whereby a medal is presented to the Best and Fairest Football player in each of the A1 and A2 Football Competitions as voted by the umpires. Congratulations to Ben Manning on finishing third overall out of the entire A2 Football Competition.

 

Congratulations to Fynn Wilson who was voted by the referees as a member of the Team of the Season for the 2019 SAAS Messenger First XI Soccer League.

 

Congratulations to Jackson Smith who was runner-up in the Senior A2 Basketball Best and Fairest.

 

First XVIII Football Presentations

First XVIII Football Presentations were held on Wednesday 11 September. Thank you to everyone who assisted the team throughout the season in particular:

First XI Soccer vs BOSA FC

The annual Tony Moss Memorial Game between Blackfriars First XI Soccer team and Blackfriars Old Scholars Association Football Club (BOSA FC) President’s XI will be held on Monday 16th September at Charles Cane Reserve, 6:30pm kick off.

 

Dominican Cup Debating

The annual Dominican Debating between Blackfriars and St Dominic's will be held on Wednesday 18th September in the Senior Library at Blackfriars starting 5:30pm. The teams will compete for the following cups:

  • The Caleruega Cup for Juniors Years 6 – 8.
  • The Father John Neill Cup for Intermediate Years 9 and 10.  
  • The Sister Jillian Havey Cup for Seniors Years 11 and 12.

Debating and UN Youth Achievements

Congratulations to the Junior and Intermediate A Debating teams who made it to the Semi Finals of the South Australian Debating Association Competition.

 

Congratulations to Frank Snelling, Trung Nguyen, Jory Dunn and Amir Nazari who made it to the Semi Finals of the UN Youth Evatt SA Competition.

 

Thank you to Mr Bob Becker, Ms Margaret Snelling and Ms Dina Hasaneen for all their work in preparing the boys and taking time to be at each debate. Your dedication and commitment is appreciated and valued!

 

Pedal Prix

Good luck to the Pedal Prix who will be travelling to Murray Bridge to compete in the 24 hour race on 21 – 22 September. This race is the final Round of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series and is regarded as the premier HPV endurance race in Australia. The race is conducted on a 1.7 km circuit around Sturt Reserve situated on the banks of the Murray River

 

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Anthony Troiani on his selection by West Ham United Football Club to attend their National Soccer Training Camp in Queensland from 21 to 25 September. We wish Anthony all the best for this exciting opportunity!
