Celebrating Achievement
Claire McKay (Year11) & Bree Pendrigh (Year 10) attended the Under 19 Hockey Tournament early June representing Peninsula. The team finished 7th winning the round robin half of the draw. Both girls played strong and competed with the best school regions in the state.Bree was fortunate to be further selected in the QLD under 16s side which goes to Hobart in August. Congratulations Bree.
Shout out to Tiarni O’Brien (Year 12) who competed in the Far North QLD Tropical Dance Festival over the weekend and took out some amazing awards. Well done Tiarni!

Edan Mattinson (Year 12) recently returned from the Australian Championships for gymnastics where he represented Queensland in the team and competed individually. The team took home silver and Edan was awarded in silver in the Parallel bars and 13th overall in Australia.

St Mary's congratulates John Mirafuentes (Year 11) who has signed up as a school based apprentice with Crave Cairns. John will be undertaking a Cert III in Commercial Cookery. All the best with your apprenticeship John.
Congratulations to Ngaire Ross (Year 10) who represented Peninsula at the 14 – 18 years Baseball State Championships in Brisbane. Ngaire was one of only 4 girls from across the state competing in the senior division of this tournament. Well done, Ngaire.
Congratulations to Kade Battle-Gould (Year 7) who recently travelled to Ipswich and represented Peninsula in the boys 10-12yrs hockey. The boys come 5th out of 10 teams. Well done!

Congratulations to our String Orchestra who played beautifully and took home a second placing.
Congratulations to our fabulous Choir who competed in six sections, gaining three 1st placings and three 2nd placings.
Shout out to these talented ladies! A few weeks ago Lara Lane (Year 9) competed at the under 15 Touch QLD State Championships in Cairns. The team did well overall placing 7th out of 12.
Also, Louise Lane (Year 7) competed in Brisbane at the under 12 QLD State Touch Championships. She felt very lucky to be the girls captain. They placed 8th out of 12 teams. Louise also received the Coach’s Award and 3 player of the match awards too.

Throwback to Cairns Junior Eisteddfod where Edan Mattinson (Year 12) and Nick Adriaans (Year 12) achieved first place in the duologue section of the speech and drama section - congratulations!
Congratulations to Ivy Tuxworth (Year 8) who received a Major Award at the Cairns Eisteddfod – Most Promising Speech and Drama Performer. Ivy also received 1st in humorous poem, 2nd in character, 3rd in age singing solo and a Highly Commended in character singing solo. Such talent Ivy.
Congratulations to Grace Blakeney (Year 9) and Ivy Tuxworth (Year 8) who placed first in the duet 14-18 years at the Cairns Eisteddfod a couple of weeks ago. Well done ladies.
Well done to our netball team captain, Caitlin Jackson (Year 11), who was awarded the St Mary's Most Valuable Player at the QISSN tournament. Her leadership and skill really shone throughout the five days of competition.
Congratulations to Charlotte Jonsen (Year 10) who was selected in the QISSN Rising Stars team at the recent Mackay netball tournament. The team of ten players was selected from over 650 participants and considered the best up and coming netballers.
Over the holidays Emma Winter (Year 9) and Nicholas Galvin (Year 10) competed in the Deep North Powerlifting Challenge. Emma entered the bench press only and achieved a personal best, lifting 32kg at 14 years of age. Nicholas entered all three disciples and achieved personal bests for all lifts (147kg squat, 100kg bench press and 160kg deadlift), lifting a total of 407kg at 15 years of age. Well done to both of you!
Miso Son (Year 11) has been selected to be on the Ministerial Student Advisory Council. The advisory council provides the opportunity for students across Queensland to share their perspectives on important education matters and the impact of broader issues on learning. The council is chaired by the Minister for Education and consists of a group of 16 students from state and non-state schools across Queensland. Miso Son represents FNQ, which is a wonderful accomplishment and opportunity.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Grace Endres-Blakeney (Year 9) who had a successful Cairns show with first place for all her entries and champion craft of the show for her children’s toy. Grace also provided a sewing demonstration for children in the pavilion. Well done Grace!

Congratulations to the St Mary's students and staff who competed in the 7 Cairns Running Festival on Sunday 16th July: Archie Dunstone (Year 9), Elliot Johnson (Year 7), Nicola Lewis (Year 7), Charline Scherer (Year 11) - half marathon, Mia Beki (Year 12) and Mr. Tim Chapman - half marathon.
