PARENT-STUDENT-TEACHER CONVERSATIONS

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended the recent Parent-Student-Teacher conversations. These conversations are valuable opportunities to discuss student progress at St Mary’s. We understand that many staff were unavailable due to retreat, so please don’t hesitate to contact the school to negotiate alternative times to meet with your child’s teachers.

YEAR 10 PATHWAYS AND SUBJECT SELECTIONS

Over the past couple of weeks, Year 10s have been engaging in a careers orientation program led by Mrs Rebecca Ambrose, our Careers and Pathways Officer. Students should be preparing to make Year 11 subject selections in the next week. On Wednesday 3rd August, students will have the opportunity to engage in our Subject Expo where they can discover what subjects are on offer at St Mary’s next year. On the evening of the Subject Expo, we invite all Year 10 students and their parents/carers to our Senior Pathways Information Evening (6:00pm to 7:30pm).

Information outlining the QCE system, ATARs and Vocational and Educational Training (VET) will be provided. At the end of the evening, students will gain access to their subject selections and will take the first steps to selecting their preferences for 2023. This will mark the beginning of their SET Planning Process. SET (Senior Education and Training) Planning is a crucial part of students achieving success in their final years of secondary schooling. As SET planning requires student, parent and teacher input, we expect parents to participate in this first session of the subject selection process. Please place the following dates in your calendar for this process.

  • Year 10 Subject Expo - Wednesday 3rd August
  • Senior Pathways Information Evening - Wednesday 3rd August 6:00pm - 7:30pm
  • SET Planning Evening - Wednesday 24th August, 1:30pm - 5:30pm

Further communication around subject selections and SET planning will occur this week.

ASSEMBLY OF EXCELLENCE

We are so very proud of the many students who have committed themselves to academic excellence this year. We acknowledge and celebrate this commitment on Tuesday 2nd August at our Assembly of Excellence. We have broadened our criteria this year to acknowledge the extra challenge of completing all assessments at a high standard in a reduced semester due to the COVID school closure at the beginning of the year. Congratulations to all students who will receive an Academic Award in Week 4.

SUBJECT CHANGES

Just a reminder that subject changes have now closed.

MISSED LESSONS DUE TO ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

We understand that many families are being challenged by influenza and COVID at this time. Our first concern is the health and well-being of your family members. Should students be well enough to engage in lessons whilst at home, please remember to have your child email their teachers to be guided on how they can continue their learning remotely. St Mary’s is well-established in providing for students who cannot be present in the classroom.
