Mission at St Mary’s is in full swing for Term 3.

Already we have had our Missio Dei group volunteering their services the Cairns running festival, The Year 10s attending their retreat, and our whole College celebrating Catholic Education Week.

Our Year 10 students are to be commended on their respect, behaviour, and overall engagement in their retreat program. Students enjoyed stepping away from the busyness of school life to recharge up at Genazzano. The Year 10 community was strengthened through many games of volleyball, cricket, and UNO, and students also had time to explore and reflect their values and identities through a range of small and large group sessions. Well done, Year 10.

In Week 3, we celebrated Catholic Education Week with the theme, “Communities of Faith, Hope, and Love”. This kicked off with our 2023 College captain candidates giving their speeches on assembly, followed by some fiercely contested staff v student netball and basketball games. On Tuesday we came together for the Athletics Carnival and on Wednesday we continued with our chalk gratitude drawings. Thursday featured a ‘Just Dance’ competition and on Friday we ended the week with a community breakfast and a ‘Lip Sync’ battle. It was wonderful to see our students and staff celebrating that which makes our College so special – our shared Catholic identity.

We now begin to look forward to our St Mary’s Day Mass and celebrations on August 15th, where we will officially bless our new Hugh O’Brien Centre.

God Bless
