FRIENDS OF FCC

Term 2 has been a full one for the Friends of Footscray. Outside of our normal monthly meetings, we’ve been busy selecting the winners from this year’s wonderful collection of applications for our annual Small Grants program as well as organising the offerings for this year’s Silent Auction at the Chef’s Dinner.

We were joined by Emma Crampton at our June Meeting who provided terrific insight into the Maths Pathways program for the year 7 and 8 students.

We had a stellar set of applications for our Small Grants program, including, for the first time, an application from the SRC. In total, we had applications for almost $20,000 worth of grants with only $10,000 available for distribution.

This year’s recipients were:

  • Rena Ding - 50 Edison Robots
  • Emma Schmidt - Headset Radio mics for use in the theatre
  • Tim Beare - Hardware and technical elements of a solar powered water fountain
  • Tim Beare - The Sliding roof component of the Tiny House Project
  • Jak Dunstan - Pizza Oven

As always, the decisions here are difficult but are made with a view to the benefit the projects can bring to the broader school community and whether or not they can be funded through normal school budgets.

We congratulate the recipients and thank everyone who made the effort to submit an application.

This year’s Chef’s Dinner was a great night out which was, of course, expected.  The food was spectacular and the decoration of the room was wonderful.  Given the earlier than normal date for the function, we had to work quickly to gather donations for the Silent Auction.

The next focus for Friends of Footscray is the annual Scouts Raffle.  This is another great earner for the group  - expect to hear more in the coming weeks.

Finally, our next visitor to our monthly meetings will of course be Maria Bawden with her Principal’s report, followed by John Box in September.
