IDAHOT DAY

IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia) was celebrated at school on the 23rd of May. In the weeks leading up to IDAHOT students were asked to think about what makes for a great ally or friend to someone who identifies with the LGBTIQ+ community. They wrote their ideas on coloured discs and then a rainbow display was arranged in the forum for all to read, see, enjoy and most importantly learn from.

We started our IDAHOT day with James Houghton from Year 8 who volunteered to read a statement at 11am. This was delivered over the PA system to the whole school. It was a message to remind staff and students of the importance of IDAHOT and to set a positive and festive vibe for the celebration planned for lunch time. The most important take home from this message was that being gay, transgender, bisexual, intersex or heterosexual is not a choice we make. It is simply the way we are. Also, that school should be a place that everyone can feel safe to be themselves.

At lunch time the music department organised a fabulous concert for us. They are always amazing entertainers but this one seemed more energetic and upbeat than ever. Great Job!

To bring the celebration home students enjoyed rainbow cake, flags and face paint.  Allen’s lollies generously donated mixed lollies that we distributed in bags and Phoenix Youth Hub kindly made up badges with students too.

Many thanks to everyone who helped but also for the huge number of students who attended and engaged. It speaks volumes to the kind of school we are and contributes to an ongoing safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

UNISEX TOILET

Students should be aware that we now have a functioning single unisex toilet available to all students at FCC. It has a red door and is located in the year 9 and 10 lockers area near the senior toilets.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast club will commence first Wednesday of term 3 at 730am.  SUV(Scripture Union Victoria) will provide volunteers to run this service for FCC. It is available to students and staff so please join us in the FUTURES CENTRE for some food and company before classes commence. I believe pancakes are on the menu for day 1.
