DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD

This year, for the first time, Footscray City College has delivered an integrated Duke of Edinburgh award. For those unfamiliar with the award, it is an internationally recognised program that seeks to develop students holistically with opportunities that are not available in the traditional classroom. Apart from personal benefits, the award is recognised by employers and can be used to lower ATAR requirements for some universities. Through the program, students work on setting and achieving goals in physical activity, new skill development and service to the community. The students will also participate in an adventurous journey as a culmination of them striving to accomplish challenges.

The students have participated in a number of activities to develop themselves in a range of ways including:

  • completing their First Aid Qualifications to prepare for medical emergencies
  • rock climbing to develop their physical skills and challenge their boundaries
  • participating in team building activities like team challenges and activities at Bounce Inc.
